    Surly is really making a lot of mistakes lately. First firing Linda thereby setting up Todds departure and now stealing summit's trade secrets. What's next, leneinkugel collab?

    You forgot to add that you have inside information but won't reveal how you got that info out of respect for the people involved! :slight_smile:

    He doesn't but I DO :wink: Expect a shandied version of Todd out next year, but you didn't hear it from me.
    In all seriousness, Surly, while I love some of their beers, has been really miss for me lately. I almost always grab TG IPA instead of Overrated, Furious, or even Todd (maybe if it was six dollars cheaper), and Darkness is great, but there's been an absurd amount of great stouts out, so I don't miss Darkness all that much.

    I assume we can expect Surly Trade Secret EPA out in cans soon?

    I have inside info that Russia hacked Summit's trade secrets and sold them to Surly. But since I respect everyone involved too much I won't reveal my source. :grinning:

    It's unpatriotic to respect the Russians. Do you think Mike Eruzione respected the Russians when he scored the game winning goal in the 1980 Winter Olympics Hockey Tournament? Reveal your sources.:angry:

    Summit is seeking a minimum of $50,000 from the two of them... seems like an F.U. lawsuit to me.

    Summit has zero secrets that most other brewers didn't know years and years and years ago. They are doing nothing new or special and their beer is mediocre. The end

    I'm curious if the individuals being sued had any sort of non compete agreement with Summit

    I agree with the first part of your comment, but not the second part. Their beer is certainly not nearly as mediocre as much of what is sold as "craft" nowadays.

    I believe they refer to expansion plans and pricing. I can see how it would be advantageous to know that Summit is going to increase price by X% in X market or push a particular beer in a certain market or enter a sponsorship deal with an event. These are the things that Surly could use to their advantage.
    Never mind that I don't think many of their beers overlap in style. I don't usually put Summit IPA next to Furious and have to decide.

    I respectively disagree with the latter part of your statement. They make very good to exceptional versions of traditional Bavarian styles, with Keller Pils being a true standout. Great Northern Porter and Oatmeal Stout are also above-average representations of their styles. I fully respect and understand many folks aren't keen on lagers and the like, but many of us enjoy them just as much as uber-hoppy IPAs and barrel-aged brews.

    Also, as an aside, if the rumors of a Surly variety pack are true, I could certainly see how company-confidential sales information for Summit's 12-packs and whatnot would be advantageous to competitors.

    Spoken like somebody who is not in the beverage industry. What about potential expansion, purchasing power, distribution network, etc.

    {sigh}

    I remember when they won a medal for their Great Northern Porter. Anybody who believes that beer sucks needs their head examined. Stylistically speaking a pretty beer.

    Definitely not in the beverage industry. Hoping these two guys can win this lawsuit and stick it to Summit! But just my .02

    So, you just dislike Summit, apparently intensely. They're a pioneer in craft beer brewing in MN. They established the market here. They blazed trails here in production, bar taps, and distribution of craft beer here. They were here for nearly 20 years before Surly was even a gleam in Omar's eye. What is your beef with them?
