So much saga in this! Thank you summit! Too bad this won't be $1 a bottle.

    Us & Them IPA
    A two-thread brewing experience.

Brewer Gabe Smoley’s Unchained 21: Us & Them is a truly unique craft beer exploration. Gabe has deconstructed the mash of Summit's popular Sága IPA recipe into two unique “threads” to forge two distinct beers: a hoppy and intense American IPA and a complex, but subtle Session IPA. This unique brewing experience explores the two extreme flavor profiles and drinking differences you can discover in one package from one, original beer recipe. Which beer do you think is “Us” and which beer is “Them”? Which brew defines you? Offered in 6 packs that include three bottles of each brew. Also available on draught.

I can see past their marketing ploy. They're trying to sell us a 3 pack of Saga for the price of a 6 pack.

More importantly, when is the 30th Anniversary DIPA being released? :grinning:

I've now tried both of the Us & Them "threads". (Thing 1 and Thing 2).

Thing 1 is the better of the two, a very nice piney/resiny west coast IPA.

Thing 2 is good "for a session IPA", and really good for a 4% ABV IPA. Reasonable malt presence even with the low ABV.

I liked the ipa. The session wasn't my thing.

I tried both "things" as well. Felt the IPA was decent but not something I would purchase again. I'd rather have regular Saga.

Didn't care for the Session Ale at all but that really didn't surprise me since I've only had one Session PA/IPA that I've actually enjoyed and that was Give-Way by Stillwater Artisanal...that beer really surprised me.

I'm still looking forward to the 30th Anniversary Double Saga...I mean IPA...

Not being a regular Sága drinker (it's probably been a couple of years, at least, for a total for maybe 2 six packs ever), I can't compare Thing 1 to Sága, but it was pretty good. However, I probably would not purchase it regularly if it was in their regular lineup, because I'm not a big IPA drinker. If I want a hoppy beer from Summit, I'll go for the Hopvale.

As to Thing 2, "Session IPAs" are tricky to get right, and even more so when they are "true" session strength (4%, not pushing 5%). I might buy Thing 2 as a summer seasonal since it is considerably more complex than its ABV might suggest, and it is really hard to find good local beers at ~4% since Surly first destroyed and then killed Bitter Brewer.

What does this have to do with Saga?

These were created by splitting the grain bill for saga to create 2 different beers.

    Also, Saga needs no context.
