Sounds like a case of "Lupulin Threshold Shift." I must say that I find Summit EPA to be fantastic on regular occasion.

Back to the original topic: I think Summit has done another great job with Unchained #9. Great representation of the style. These beers continue to impress me! Can't wait for the next one... or ∞!

Check the dates...there is no way they brew "off" beer....I know a lot of places that do but they don't ....it's probably old beer a frequent problem in some areas where the distributor/store owner do not care enough...

I am a huge Summit fan, buy and recommend their stuff regularly, but I will say that over the past 6 months I've had 3 bad bottles. 2 EPA and 1 Pilsner, they were completely off...strange tart flavor, couldn't drink it. Since I am in FL, and haven't read these same complaints from folks in MN, I have to believe that something went awry in distribution...but I don't know for sure.

After drinking more of the Horizon Red, it's the same beer for sure, just not as fresh, I think. The hops have faded a little but still drinkable. Has a very very slight metallic tinge to it, but can't really notice it by the second one. Sorry for being off-topic.

Being a big fan of wheat beers, I was stoked to hear that #9 was a Dunkel Weizen. Summit definitely did not disappoint on this one. Great job on another top notch brew in the Unchained Series Summit Brewing!

Just wondering: has anyone seen this in the Des Moines area yet? I'm really looking forward to trying it, but haven't been able to locate any. :slight_frown:

Same beer as what? Sorry, I read the thread again, but on little pocket computers it's easy to miss shit. As to Red Horizon having a metallic flavour, yeah I can see that. Summit seems to have a pronounced mineral, as in hard water flavour in some of their beers. Maybe it's the yeast, maybe they "Burtonize" their water, not sure but I like it.

Same beer as in, it's still the same formula, it's still Horizon Red. I definitely notice the mineral/metallic flavor in their beers. Almost all of them, actually. On tap or out of a bottle. Though it's much more pronounced from a bottle.

Remake India Rye Ale? Was it #4?

There is a good possibility of that happening next year. No promises. But, there are rumblings.

Can there be rumblings about the Imperial Pumpkin Porter as well?

Wasn't a huge fan of the dunkel, just not my style. but I bought like 3 cases of the pumpkin last time and now it is all gone. I wants more.

Yes, the India Rye Ale and Imperial Pumpkin Porter were the best unchained beers by far so far. Both were awesome and if they were year round or even seasonals, that would be amazing!

I recently found a Pumpkin Porter that had gotten tucked behind some other stuff. It aged really well, it went from "very good" to "amazing"

Wanted to reiterate that I personally think this is a great effort at a Dunkel and it goes down very nicely, particularly with the sun beaming on your face. I also respect Summit and all the other breweries for changing things up using these one-off speciality brews. My beer drinking friends also like this one a lot. It may not be the typical imperial stout, DIPA or Sour that give the serious beer fans hard-ons these days, but it is nice to see these different beers released, whether it is a Rye, a black IPA or a Pumpkin Porter. I think most would agree with me, which is one of the reasons why people like THB so much as they tend to try loads of different beers (of course it helps when these beers usually taste fantastic as well).

Oddly enough I found the opposite. The pumpkin spice seemed to fade hard at about a year, the last couple bottles I had were not as good.

I had the dunkelweizen recently and thought it was a very good example of a style you don't see very often, much less see done WELL very often. Nice job.

Just an FYI, the St. Anthony Village liquor store is clearancing this out, they have a bunch of it and it looks like the 6 packs were selling for under $5.

If you liked it here is your chance to pick up some more

I saw a tweet earlier this week that Lake Wine & Spirits has sixers for $4.99 also.
