Summit head brewer Damian McConn is preparing to brew our newest release in the Union Series. The fourth beer to be released in the series is called 3X Mild. This is a whole new take on the Mild ales of 19th century England brewed with a new American base malt, an experimental hop variety blended, and a traditional English yeast strain. The result: a rich, malt-driven and full-bodied beer with notes of stone fruit, molasses, toffee, toast and a hint of chocolate (believe it or not - from the experimental hops!). With a planned release date of mid-to-late November, it'll be perfect for sharing during the holidays and into the colder months of winter.

    UNION #4: 3X MILD
    ABV: 7.2%
    OG: 1.5 Plato
    IBU: 38
Malts: Expedition base malt (U.S.), with Mild Ale and Amber malt (U.K.)
    Hops: Experimental 06300 (U.S.)
    Yeast: Yorkshire Ale

Sounds good. I assume this will be a winner as the rest of the series has been. Also, in general, I've found im a fan of a lot of the new experimental hop varieties. (at leqast the ones i've tried).

Im in the mood for an engligh-y beer. Perfect timing!

This sounds delicious, I'm glad to see Summit continuing to evolve and experiment. They have put out some really interesting brews in the last few years. I will definitely have plenty of this on hand this winter!

I was talking to my Summit Rep about this beer just a few weeks ago. Looking forward to it! Really excited about what Summit has been crankin' out as of late. We really try to push Saga (and other Summit beers of course, but an excellent IPA in a can is a easy sale for us!) at Beertopia because it is an excellent beer, and we think Summit is a little under-appreciated (outside of MN)!

I just love that they described it (on Twitter) as an Imperial Mild - which, as they responded back to me, was for lack of a better term.

I will happily give this one a go, though.

Perhaps they call it an "Imperial Mild" because the ABV is almost twice the English Mild style definition per BJCP.

Most likely. And "for lack of a better category" where a buffed up mild isn't quite an EPA or ESB or whatever it would / could be.

I'll give it a run. I just hope it's better than the Union #3.

Ron's got bigger ears than me, so I am sure that he will be aware by now. :sunglasses:

It's a bit too weak for an Imperial Mild at only 1070º. Should be more like 1100º.

Pretty Things 1832 XXXX - now there's a proper Imperial Mild.

Out of curiosity, has a modern ("Craft Era") brewery ever packaged an Imperial Small Beer? I seem to recall something which fit that description from a brewpub back east a few years back, but it did not receive a wide release. :sunglasses:

Sounds like the kind of whacky oxymoron Lagunitas would get behind.

Imperial Small Beer makes no sense.
