spent yesterday on an indianapolis brewery tour with kahn's (big thanks to the kahn's folks). great beer at each and every stop. the highlight for more than a couple of us was the chance to visit the huge walk in cooler that houses the bourbon barrel aging program. i'm an admitted sun king homer, but even so - with only an exception or two, they've hit the mark (and then some) on their barrel aged beers... cupcake's revenge remains one of my top 3 beers. looking forward to bourbon barrel cowbell ! here's a couple pics: we also got to take a look at the sour barrel aging room: in the sour room, dave colt told us about a supercool indiana sourced lambic yeast project they're working on (i may have the semantics wrong here, and if so, maybe someone can provide more insight)
The two Sun King barrel-aged offerings I've had (Pappy Fog and Pappy van Muckle) were both quite good. That is quite a lot of barrels for a relatively new barrel program.
What was the sun king at DLD that was barrel aged in pappy barrels? Was it the van muckle? That was the most delicious beer on tap that I had.
completely agree. on the other hand, Bourbon Barrel Wee Mac=terrible. Tasted like a bourbon flavored werthers original, and as it warmed up it just tasted like straight bourbon. just my opinion....
Actually glad to hear this, as this is the only barrel aged offering from them I've had, and I was not a fan. But seeing the overwhelmingly positive reviews of their other barrel aged beers, I definitely won't write them off.
