hey! so im planning my first european drinking trip for september i get there on the 9th and will be heading straight to belgium, namely to go to cantillon (i know, very original!) for my 30th birthday on the 11th. problem is however that my birthday falls on a sunday and cantillon isnt open, and apparently nothing else is either!

i could just head down to lux where my home base is... but i would prefer to drink some amazing beers in an amazing place in belgium and then head to lux monday. any ideas!? im so bummed! ill be doing cantillon on the 10th instead :slight_frown:

(i havent done much research yet and im totally overwhelmed honestly but i figure you guys may have some good ideas for me!)

also, anyone want to put up a ba'er anywhere in europe? haha

Bars are open on Sunday in Brussels, just not stores. Go to moeder lambic, they always have cantillon on draft/cask plus plenty of other good stuff.

+1 to Dorst. That is THE place to drink great beer on a Sunday!
Happy big 30. There is a small group of us that live in Lux and do small shares on the regular. We always welcome fellow beer lovers. If you are looking for craft beer for yourself while in Lux the closest bottle shops are Humulus (north of town) and MiOrge MiHoublon (Arlon, BE) If you need any other recommendations or what to share some beers give a shout.

    Cheers

Yes to Dorst on Sunday for sure. They have crazy limited hours so hit it on Sunday. We went to De Cam down the road afterwards and it was a blast: great little Sunday.

    +1 to Moeder Lambic.

    Of course Delirium.
Ahh brussels. Have so much fun.

For an action packed 3 day beer adventure, head straight out to Watou, spend Friday night at the Brouwershuis B&B (dinner at t Hommelhof), hit De Struise on Saturday, up early on Sunday for the trip back to Dorst....Whew, now that's a trip! Enjoy your B-day wherever you end up. Cheers

If you have to overnight in Brussels on Saturday, and for some reason can't get to Dorst (it's like an hour by bus), then the Marolles area of Brussels is where you want to be on a Sunday morning, especially if it's nice-ish out. It's never too early for a few gueuzes at La Brocante.

The title of this thread reminded me to make a note about In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst. Until mid-year, they're staying open until 8pm on Sundays. So, no more rushing to get in by 1. To some, this will deny you the cover for a.m. drinking. But I can say that at least for yesterday, it was fantastic -- the mid-afternoon hours were extra sweet, with sunlight streaming in the windows. The crowd thinned, but remained majority local. I didn't get a chance to ask Kurt what inspired this, but it was good to see him and his mother have some time to interact with friends and visitors. I say, take advantage before the end of June, and don't take it for granted.
