I'm bummed to see it go. My first Founder's Breakfast Stout there was a game changing experience for me. Food was fine for the price and type of place it was and there was almost always a handful of really good beers on even now. Certainly would have been back at some point if it were still around.

Too bad, the place was an early adopter of better beer & I have several fond memories of the place. But sadly the place never changed with the times & could no longer simply exist with just having 100 beers on tap while neglecting the food, service & overall beer drinking experience.

Marc’s a good guy who’s done a lot for beer in the Boston area, so I’m sorry it came to this.

I thought Marc sold it a few years back?

Shame, used to head over there whenever we could back in the 2000's. A lot of fun and good food. Suprised they couldn't make it work, it always seemed slammed with BU families.

You are correct! Forgot about that.

He sold it to another Marc - the other Berkowitz brother.

21 year old me used to love when an unfamiliar server would ask if I wanted that DFH 90 or 13% belgian in a pint or 22 ounce glass. Way more down to earth than those snoody hipsters at Publick House.

23 year old me loved getting introduced to Pinkus and other German breweries that I had never seen before

24 year old me decided that Big City was not worth the visit anymore now that the guns for big buck hunter were broken

25 year old me loved getting into their secret stash of unlisted beers

26 year old me wished the servers knew as much as those snoody hipsters at publick house.

27 year old me wondered how they could keep so much beer fresh

28 year old me hated when the beer I just paid 10 bucks for came through a dirty line

30 year old me decided Lulu's is better in every way

    except

32 year old me will miss the fuck out of those nachos

I'll miss you sunset, and 19-20 year old me is sorry about that fake ID. You were one of the original institutions for beer nerds

Shame that. Remember me and wifefrom going there purely on the back of their extensive beer list. We were just getting into decent beer at the time.

I still remember being blown away with her Dogfish 90 and me being decidedly underwhelmed that I bought a beer because of Monty Python.

    But the nachos......

I'll miss it purely for nostalgic reasons. Otherwise, Lu Lu's is way better, Deep Ellum is still awesome, and Lone Star Tacos is solid.

And if you crave a huge beer list, you can go to Meadhall now.

That being said, I'm fairly certain I had the nachos multiple times and don't remember being blown away by them...and now everyone is talking them up like they're the greatest thing since sliced bread...and I'll never get to try them again...

Nothing beats the nachos at Howling Wolf in Salem though, so I'll just hang my hat on that.

You had to ask for the sliced bread separately.

No love for the pulled pork nachos @ Magoun’s ????? ☹️

I’m not getting the Sunset nacho love, always seemed to be more of a quantity vs quality deal though.

The frozen Sysco seasoned curly fries always did it for me. Good partner for a drinking session.

Woah..I was just there on Saturday and was super disappointed in the tap list and thought something was weird.

Literally the best nachos I've ever had. Anyone know some other places like this to fill the void?

I'm pretty sure I've had them at least once, and remember the pulled pork especially being very good. I'll have to get them the next time I'm there.

Was just there Saturday too for some CBS. An added bonus was that there was football on and it wasn't super crowded (still couldn't get a bar seat though).

Meadhall for a huge tap list.

Olde Magoun's for the pulled pork nachos.

not shocked by any place shutting down when their nachos is their chief draw.

I find it interesting that no one has cited that the former owner filed for bankruptcy, was fined over $500k for not paying wages and taxes, left the new owner with another over $500k penalty for not paying taxes and was arrested for selling stolen property at his own apt.

Anytime I went there, the beer lines were full of chemicals and spoiled every beer. Bye Bye !

I used to get this thing there called Paco Taco--of course I'm dating myself. This is probably back in the late 80's early 90's. It was where I first discovered many beers and I completed my way through one of their Beer Club cards at least twice--after a couple T-shirts, they said they'd give me a neon sign if I completed the card a 3rd time. Good times --RIP !!!
