On at the Valley Tap House when we left not long ago, but at $10 for 10 or 12 oz. Was hoping I liked it better than I did at ABR, but no dice.

Second bottle is much better. Still not as good as on tap, but no sour or brett funk.

Bummer. I am going to crack a bottle in a couple weeks. I plan on going back to DJC club tomorrow. On tap it is incredible.

I just cracked open one of my bottles. Good beer, but there are definitely some sour flavors going on. I haven't had it on tap to compare.

Unfortunately my first bottle was "off" as well. Apart from mellow sherry, the most prominent smell was aged soft cheese, like a decent Camembert. It didn't dominate the flavor profile either, but it was there. Didn't mesh too well with the "spicy vanilla marshmallow" notes. Not terrible, but from what I've heard and read, not intentional either? I would love to have this on tap for comparisons sake, but haven't found it yet. At $23 a bottle, the milk sugar doing this to a rye'd oat wine is not cool.

Oh well, my second bottle is from another store, so hopefully is okay (I'm aging this one). Hopefully a relatively isolated problem!

Opened another bottle Saturday. Definitely is better after it warms up a bit. This reminds me of Lift Bridge Commander and Bell's Oarsmnn with a little tart funk. A year on this could bring it from just below average to really good. Not as good as Five or Pentagram though.

Can anyone from Surly comment on the bottled variations people are noticing? I don't think the beer is supposed to be sour.

I don't know, but it's $10 for a 10/12 ounce snifter. They have great food, but their specialty release prices on beer suck.

Cheese, Spicy Vanilla Marshmallow, Rye? I must have got a completely different beer. What else did I miss? Leathery, tobacco horse blanket?

I'm just hoping mine was an outlier! No need to feel left out. It was interesting, just not what I wanted to pay for is all.

just tapped at grizzlys in plymouth, alongside darkness, rum king, kbs and backwoods.

$18 for a flight or $25 for a flight with paired food.

Still on at Acadia folks! Out at pizza Luce downtown.

And this is the real deal, not at all like the weirdness we got out of our first bottle.

    Cheers!

Pizza Luce in Richfield just ran out of Surley 8, but maybe the other locations still have some on tap

I had it on draft when it first released and it was very good. That was what led me to buying 4 bottles. Got home and cracked open a bottle after one week and it is showing early signs of infection. It is mildly tart and you can really notice it on the nose. Was nothing like the draft. I quickly put all mine in the fridge but I am worried where it is headed as I have had other beers that showed this and then became completely undrinkable.
