Surly Abrasive in Chicago

i was scooping it last year 16-18

 

Excited. Probably my favorite seasonal IPA. And now with Sucks year round, thats one less IPA around the same time to take my money!

 

Ok so it appears Abrasive is being sold now @ the Surly brewery. Any updates whether the Abrasive Express is en route to the Chicagoland area in time for Christmas?

 

Nope. It's still not on the shelves in the Twin Cities either. I'd bet on early January though. There's been local media stories about the new brewery location opening this weekend and several people have noticed the giant pallets of Abrasive in the background of the shots. Probably just needs a bit of time to start going through the distribution channels now.

 

We don't get anything fresher than a month in the TC now that they are with a distributor. I don't see Abrasive showing up on shelfs in the TC area before the end of the year. Ill gladly drink those words if I am wrong...

 

Was surprised to see this at Temple Bar today. Ran over to find out the cans are from last year.

Womp. Womp.

 

And it's probably still good.

 

Fact, much like how Hopslam is still tasty cakes a year later. Still odd to see a beer just get added to a tap list and be a year old unless it's getting advertised as "Abrasive '14".

I found 2 cans in a St. Paul shop last month and bought it knowing it was a year old. It was a shell of itself, but still tasty. I wonder if the keg would hold up any better.

 

I still have 2 cans I'm hoarding in the bottom of my fridge from last year. I wish I knew of a liquor store near me that would do the job of holding cans all year because Abrasive has been tasty any month of the year I've opened a can.

 

is abrasive going to hit chicago? anyone know?

 

was told yes on twitter, but not completely believe it because we have not even seen furious in about 8 months.....hope so

 

Hopefully the new production facility is up and cranking out enough for chicago

 

I dont know if it will hit Chicago or not. But when I was there last week, I've heard a few people talk about consistency issues with certain canned dates, in particular 1/13/15. It appears that many are hit or miss on being great or being flat and very under-carbed. I bought a 4 pack myself and found that two were very flat and two were perfect. I guess this issue, if even an issues, has been brought to Surly already.

Any news on Abrasive in Chicago this year?

 

I am 90% certain that Chicago will not be getting abrasive this year.

 

Too impatient, ordered from France44 yesterday. Tuesday can't come fast enough!!

 

We can just ship you guys all the cans that may have carb issues.
