It could also have been the distributor. I know in the past some stores would send it back to the distributor and then they would send it to other stores.

Granted it was with Todd, but I was at France 44 trying to find some fresher stuff. I belive the stuff they currently had was about a month old and they received stuff that was older than that and they turned it away.

Its easy to remember the few "bad" date deliveries, when we got so many "good" date deliveries. Fresh Todd was pretty easy to get this year.

^^This! Plus at least Surly is doing it right by CLEARLY putting the born on date on their product. So many breweries still aren't doing this. Given a choice, I always go with the beer that is clearly labeled (unless I know it was just released).

Me too, unless it's a clearly labeled can of Todd from the end of July.

Ignore the troll. Unless there's some big conspiracy in which no liquor stores checked it in on Beer Menus.

I was asking a legitimate question. Abrasive is a beer I've never had and do want to try. I looked on Beer Menus before asking, and there are only 3 places showing it less than 100 miles from me. The closest to my home is 14 miles away in the Northern part of Chicago. That might as well be in Minneapolis for me. I'm not able to make it there.

Thanks for crapping on me based on a lot of incorrect assumptions, I'll try to return the favor some day!

Huh? I was referring to the guy who said it's been in Chicago since 10/25. Hard to believe it's here with virtually no stores checking it in last week. Not sure how you took my response as a shot at you.

I was curious how the 2016 batch was so I searched Untappd quick and see people started checking it in around Chicago 10/26 with comments "canned 7 days ago" and "last minute pop in to Binnys pays off. Canned 10/17". I guess they are all making it up though.

Why in the hell does Chicago and Iowa have Abrasive but I can't find it at my stores in the east metro yet?

Todd stole it all and brought it with him on his job interview @ 3 Floyds, He must have also dropped some off in iowa city on the way. It's the only logical explanation...

By the way speaking of abrasive (since that's what this thread is about) did everyone see this?
    http://surlybrewing.com/news/3571/

I thought this part was interesting:
"Our lead brewer Ben Smith said he likes Abrasive’s trademark fruity, punchy taste and says this batch has accentuated some of the beer’s big flavors: “The process of brewing Abrasive has evolved a little. We double dry-hopped it instead of single dry-hopping it, and that brings out the natural bouquet, it makes it a little danker, and the aroma on the nose is huge.”

I love double dry hopping with Citra as much as anyone, but better be careful on messing around with the recipe on one of my all time favorite beers! Virtual torches and pitchforks will be ready!

I think it was 2010 when I had my first Abrasive. I've never had another that tasted the same. I guess that makes sense now that I read they change it up a little every year. But man, that first year had so much awesome cat pee to it.
