Here is my humble opinion on Abrasive (at least from a Minnesotan perspective). The ongoing issue with 1+ month old cans sitting on shelves at even high traffic locations is understandably frustrating. When you buy local beer, you expect it to be fresh. Abrasive's freshness generally cannot compete with that of Tree House, Alchemist, and other highly-sought after IPAs which are generally only a maximum 3 days old when you buy them. Whether this is an issue with Surly's distributors not getting stock out quickly enough, the beer being priced too high to move quickly, undiscerning store owners ordering too much at once or not turning away old deliveries, or some combination of the above, I don't know. But, this also is a world class IIPA that you can buy at a Costco at any given time during its season. No waiting in line. No driving an hour to get it. So if we could just get less than 2-3 week old Abrasive at Costco, Zipps, Haskells and whatnot I think we'd hit the sweetspot for freshness and ease of access. Let's hope this will be the case this year. Cheers!

Lol after this whole discussion and pitchfork sharpening, we get 10/26 abrasive. Is 5 days too old for y'all?

I can handle 5 day old abrasive, canned 10/26/2016. Dank with a nice floral and pineapple nose. Cloudier appearance this year which I like and seems a bit boozier but in a this how I like my double IPAs to finish kind of way. Better than last year based on this first can.

10/26 cans hit the stores in Sioux Falls today shocked they are that fresh can't wait to try never had Abrasive that fresh before usually a month or so older by the time I got some last year.

10/19 canning. Cracked one tonight. First impression, was good but different from past years. Decided to crack another can and it confirmed that to my palate, it's a lot different than years past. Abrasive is like a Top 3 beer ever for me, so I'm very bummed in this canning. Boozy, very little aroma and lacks the tropical fruit punch I've grown to expect. Everything just seemed very muted this year, except the boozieness. Le sigh. :slight_frown:

PS - I'm but that person that claims every year "isn't as good as last year", but it seems off to me. Carb is at least on.

Count me among the group that enjoys this years first canning. I only bought one 4 pack last year and it was flat and lacked nose and a punch of fruity sweetness. This cannong has all that for me. Will be a regular in my fridge if it is consistent.

If we are turning over 4-packs at good stores on New Years eve and the dates still say 10/26......

But for now. Five day old Abrasive MF'ers (flashes metal horn fingers)

6 phone calls and/or stops between Minneapolis and Monticello and was only able to find 10/19 Abrasive at Total Wine Maple Grove. Most excellent this year! Still prefer Todd though and hope it sticks around.

I'm glad Surly has (for now, at least) resisted the urge to call its double IPA a triple IPA.

I enjoyed one can and resisted the temptation to have another last night. It was dated 10/26 bought at TW Bloomington and it was everything I dreamed it would be!
