I find Devil Dancer absolutely undrinkable. Now I'm worried about this year's Abrasive (haven't had one yet).

I really like Devil Dancer (and I love Abrasive, too), and didn't get the onion this year after reading all about it here. And I hadn't gotten it from Abrasive until this 4-pack. I sure hope I don't keep getting it - although it would save me some coin.

Both last year and this year CITRA is the hop in Abrasive-same lot of Citra also.

Simcoe was the hop in WET 2012

    Cheers!

No point spouting off facts round these parts Todd! We really need Life of Brian back around here to even things out.

I picked up some 12/12 canned Abrasive today from Surdyk's! SOO pumped to get home and crack one! (Also picked up an Indeed Old Friend)...

I think BAs who shop Surdyk's hate America and eat babies.

    Not really.

Ah shit... got my beers confused and got called out by the man himself. I have zero explanation why onions are perceived in Abrasive.

Hopefully we can trust your statements about RAP more than your statements about BEER.

I find it very slight this year compared to several years ago when I had it but it is there...I see it as more garlic but onion/garlic describe the same characteristic....I think I am beginning to accept that flavor a lot better these days though. I got two four packs this year and am savoring every can....it is a hell of a good DIPA...a lot of tropical fruitiness first and foremost.

What are some of the canning dates you're seeing and where are you finding it? I'd like to get some of the newer batches for a couple of trades, and would prefer the southern metro. I can hit South St Paul/southern part of Minneapolis if needed. Thanks everyone!

There may have been a mix-up, but it seems the shipment that was delivered yesterday to Blue Max was dated 12/06.

Bumping as an FYI because Merwin in North Minneapolis has alot of Abrasive still. It's dated 2/15/13 but drinking great still based on the 2 cans I had this evening.

The barkeep at The White Horse here in St. Cloud just put on his last keg on last week (he wanted to save it for when it was nice and HOT out). I'd say at 6 months old this still kills the fresh Stone Double IPAs. 17th, Enjoy By, and RuinTen are all kinda same-y beers. All very tasty, and I'm a fan of what Stone does, they just make a lot ofDIPAs that are very similar.

Having an Abrasive in the summer was a huge treat.

Six month old Abrasive is still awesome I agree. I have one or two in the beer fridge myself.
I don't see the need to make this either-or by slamming Stone however. Surly and Stone are both great.

Just stopped by Merwin MPLS-P/U'd two four packs of Abrasive (and it's noon!)

FWIW they still had a lot of other interesting beers: Double Trouble, Double Crooked Tree, Breakfast Stout, IVan the Great, SevIIn, and some others.

Now if Surly sold 40s of Abrasive, Merwin's would have been sold out the same day.

    Wait...40s of Abrasive...mmmmm!
