They need to be publicly flogged IMO. And a dollar isn't even the issue. It's the principle.

I'd pay $1, $2, $3, etc more for a store like Firkins in the Roch. For me the "mark up" isn't a big deal. But everyone has a right to their opinion. Cheers!

I shouldn't reply to this as its been discussed before, and it is certainly a tangent from this thread... What exactly is the principle you are so offended by? The idea of providing a fancier beer buying experience (craft beer only, prime location and decor, larger marketing budget, etc.)? If you don't want those things, don't go there! It seems pretty obvious to me that they are going to have to pay for them somehow...

On the other end of the spectrum is something like Hennepin Lake Liquor - cash only and no special beer lights. Clearly there is a place for both of these approaches.

Certainly you can have your own opinion, but all the Firkins hate confuses me. They are not profiteering assholes - just guys with a good business model.

One good think about the Firk is that they support Moutain Biking. If you have a IMBA/MORC membership you save either 7% or 10% (not sure which). So...that extra buck basically goes away if your a Cyclist!

Not sure if my post was construed as Firkins hate, but for the record I don't hate the FF at all. I like their store and approach, there is definitely a place for it. For me the most important beer purchasing factor is price, which is why I shop elsewhere.

Not at all. I agree with you. I also shop elsewhere, for the most part. Mostly due to geography. I do occasionally stop in for some Steel Toe or Indeed, especially after stopping at Midwest Supplies. 10% off with a receipt helps with the price a bit.

Excuse my temporary ******ation. I was referring to Surdyk's and mistakenly thought this was the off topic at hand. My apologies. I don't have a problem with Four Firkins. I live in St Paul so I have access to the same beers albeit a tad cheaper which works for me. I understand some folks who are in another boat than me that may have to travel to these destination liquor stores and pay a little more, glad it isn't my problem

Actually, IMHO they are "profiteering assholes."

Once, when I went there with a gift card (the only time I go there) the gift card did not cover my entire purchase and there was a balance of a couple of $. I attempted to pay with my cash card and they said I could not do so that, in order to use cards you had to have a minimum purchase of $10 (or a similar number). They told me credit card fees are too expensive. I of course replied that their prices are too expensive as well and that I was in fact making a purchase of well over $10 including the GC but since I was not one of the FF fanboys it was to no avail. Also, who else charges for tastings? Yes, I know they do some tastings for free!

Snobs as well. These guys even had the audicity to state in one of their newsletters (I believe this past summer) that if they didn't sell certain beers then it wasnt worth buying. WTF?? That borders on the fantastical. I guess all that chasing I did last year to land a few bottles of CBS wasnt necessary. FF didnt get any, so the beer must suck.

Just my two cents, let the FF fanboys get out their pitchforks.

I have yet to see a tasting that requires you to pay, perhaps a class, but that is different.
