BA darkness to some degree and definitely DBH do not trade like they should. DBH is higher rated than BAA and BVDL and it is way easier to acquire than both those beers.

Ratings are a tough way to gauge what a beer 'should' trade for. To someone that drinks Bud Lights and they try Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, that Pale Ale may be a 5/5 whereas to someone that drinks nothing but Trillium/Monkish/Tree House (harder to obtain beers of high quality), etc probably would rate that Sierra Nevada much lower.

My point is quite a few more people have had BA Darkness and DBH than BAA or BVDL due to number of bottles released, not to mention that generally you don't obtain BVDL or BAA all that easily. If you have one of those, it was likely a much more difficult process, and therefore would trade for more.

true. for example, I would think more people would want BVDL or FVM than BA DL yet BA DL is probably just as tough to get since there were only ~600 bottles as compared to ~1200 for BVDL (which is up like double from last year) & ~2500 for FVM. can't remember the exact bottle count off the top of my head. also the scotch BA DL was less than 200 bottles (like 180something). so certainly that factors into it.

Completely agree, and I believe your numbers are correct as well. And of course, another factor that weights into it all which we haven't mentioned is hype. BVDL especially has this insane white whale status.

all that said, what gives for the asking price of BL stouts (specifically FO & NC)?? those dudes are getting a massive haul (3 FO & 2 NC) and yet are asking FVM for 1 of each. to me that seems lopsided. must be hype train cuz neither are whales.

I think the trade game will fade a bit over time. More brewers are making delicious BA stouts every year. When there gets to be several nice options on everyone's store shelves year round, the demand for the "whales" of today will decrease. I'm already seeing this trend beginning.
