Do they post their beer list and/or food menu anywhere? Their website doesn't have any info except directions and I don't see anything on their Twitter or Facebook accounts. Am I missing something? Maybe a specific site for the beer hall that they forgot to link to?
I can see it now on my laptop. On my tablet, that page just looked like the very top section that only said "directions" and didn't appear to be able to scroll down.
I was there on Saturday at about noon and it was a pretty busy place. Parking lot was nearing full. We had a 20 minute wait for a 2 top. We just grabbed some Todd the Axe Man from the bar and explored the building, as it was our first time there, while we waited for our seats. Really liked it though and will definitely go back in the future.
Went Saturday at about 2pm and it was a 1 hour wait for tables. Since I had the kids I skipped it and went back for lunch on Easter. No wait and delicious food! The hog frites are fantastic. And the beer is pretty good too
Went on a weekday and it didn't get super busy until around 6:30 or 7. Service was still pretty quick the whole time. They do have a huge outdoor space that looks pretty appealing for a nice Spring evening as well. I also asked about flights. None yet but they may be "in the works"? I was content with the full servings.
Our girl is going to be 14 Friday & we always allow them to go to any restaurant they want on their birthdays. She asked "I want to go to Surly & get some of that awesome cornbread!" Surly it is for her birthday. Damn, I have great kids.
I know Todd has been openly against flights, but man do I love them when I am traveling and visiting new breweries.
I'm fine with them not offering flights. They offer most of the stuff in 4oz glasses. The stuff that is only offered in 10oz glasses is usually too delicious to be limited to 4 ounces anyway.
As an out of state visitor that's kind of what I was thinking, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience nonetheless! You guys have a good thing going up there!
I wasn't aware that you could purchase beer in 4 oz. glasses at Surly. I will have to ask about that. I know they do "half-pint" (in my experience, more like 10 oz.) pours for $3 instead of $5 for the pint. Surly is famous for overpouring at festivals, and Surly chose 16 oz. cans specifically because Omar and Todd thought 12 oz. isn't a large enough serving. Fair State refuses to do flights for similar ideological reasons. I have the opposite preference. I will gladly pay a price premium to get small pours of various beers as in flights. I like the variety, I'm not seeking inebriation, I have no problem doing a rating and review from a small pour (on the other site; I believe official BA guidelines discourage rating from small pours), and I'm happy to do without the extra calories and alcohol intake that would be required to drink multiple pints. Rarely am I going to have more than 1 pint of beer at a single location, and I would rather spend, say, $8 to try four ounces each of four different beers than $5 for a full pint of a single beer. One of the reasons I prefer taprooms to beer bars is that most taprooms offer flights and most beer bars don't.
Went there about two weeks ago for supper with a colleague, waited 1 hour on a Wednesday nigt although it was really nice out and we stood outside until our table was ready. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. I had the pulled pork shoulder and several Todd the Axe Man, which was fabulous.
