Surly Brewing will expand Minneapolis brewery earlier than planned http://www.bizjournals.com/twinciti...minneapolis-expansion-fermenters.html?ana=twt
Wow, good for them! When I was on their tour about a month ago they said they built the brewery with cinder block walls in order to expand production. The guy said it will likely happen sooner rather than later.
Makes sense, maybe three months ago I saw Todd and some business like men looking over blueprints in the beerhall.
And heres the full press release : WE’RE EXPANDIN’ THE DESTINATION BREWERY... Beer Hall, Minneapolis Brewery Tweet Exciting news in Surly Nation! Next month, Surly Brewing will be starting on the first phase of its expansion by bringing in eight more fermentation tanks to increase brewing capacity at our Minneapolis location. The expansion will extend the fermentation hall to the east from its current location. It will have space for 14 additional fermenters, but Surly will start out with eight more tanks, doubling the capacity at the Destination Brewery. Groundbreaking is currently scheduled for August 2016. “Expanding the fermentation hall has always been part of the plans, which is why we have piles in place for the fermentation hall expansion” said our Founder and President Omar Ansari. “We are excited to dig in on this expansion a little sooner than we had projected but with our new out-of-state markets doing so well, and Minnesota being stronger than ever for Surly, the time is now.” Surly Brewing will get the eight 600-barrel tanks from ROLEC in South Germany and they are slated for use in 2017. Each tank is big enough to hold 1,200 kegs or 150,000 cans during a given brew. We will keep everyone posted throughout the expansion, but no need to worry, the expansion won’t get in the way of brewing beer and getting beer out to accounts nor serving in the Beer Hall, Scheid Hall and Brewer’s Table. Our Head Brewer Todd Haug will oversee the brewery expansion. “It’s been an especially exciting last couple of years since our Destination Brewery opened in December 2014 and we were able to make more beer and expand our distribution footprint,” said Ansari. “To be turning over dirt again, sooner than expected, is exciting and humbling. We can’t wait to get to work on it.”
Finally, they can brew more beer that's not as good as it used to be and way too expensive. Seriously though it's good to see a terrific local business succeeding
I might pay $4.99 for a 4 pack but since discovering PsuedoSue I no longer care to remortgage my house for some more extra hops!
1) I think your expectations are a bit out of touch with reality. 2) I find it odd that you imply Surly is the only brewery in the world charging a higher price for beers that contain more hops than some of their other beers. 3) Not even PseudoSue is $4.99 a 4 pack.
Great, now I'm thirsty for some Axeman, will be stopping on my way home to grab a few more 4 packs of this over priced, and with a few more hops beer!
Apologies, friend. In my defense, words on a screen don't typically convey things like sarcasm very well. I took your post at face value.
That's a lot of Furious and Hell! I would love to know how the sales are going in Eastern WI and IL. I guess this frees them up to distribute to many of the other states that Johnson is in. I would like to see some Surly in Vegas, that town sucks for craft beer.
