Totally agree about coffee bender, the onlay brown ale that ccompares is Cigar city's Cuban style espresso.

If I want a coffee bomb, I'll pay a little extra and grab a Coffee Break Abduction.

Darkness bottle release at Red Star Bar (the bar located upstairs on the mezannine) Friday Dec 27th. We’ll be handing out raffle tickets for the chance to buy a bomber. Draft options will include Cynic and Furious with a little randall magic added into the mix somewhere. Event starts at 4 PM and we’ll draw tickets at 6:30. We'll also be raffling limited amounts of Smoke. Please keep in mind we will only have bottles, no draft Darkness. There will be plenty of other great draft on that night, as per usual. We're thinking there will be enough for 40-50 people, I'll update when I have a more specific count.

Heads up. There was a shipping problem that is delaying darkness' arrival here to Chicago so were rescheduling our event. Will keep you guys posted.

9 bottles of Smoke are collecting dust on the shelf at Arlington Heights Binny's.

    Why?

    What's the price on Smoke?

    17.99

Yeah a bit steep, but I bet Darkness would be $5 higher and gone in an hour.

Plenty of Smoke here too. $20 bomber of a lager with some smokiness to it? I was happy with my 5oz pour for like $3 but would have a hard time justifying a bomber.

I guess I forgot about the wax though. Kegs aren't dipped in wax, right? So I guess the bottle version must taste different with the wax on top, I mean it makes it rarer-er.

^I'd pay $30 a bottle for Darkness before I paid $10 for Smoke. I'd rather fork out 3x the dough for something that is 3x better. Isn't that why we buy our $20 bombers? (and not cases of Keystone) Because we're not afraid to pay substantially more money for something that is substantially better.

    obviously imo, duhhhh.

Because smoke is just as gross as all other smoked beers that are not bo and luke.

Bo and Luke is way overrated.

I live on the Wi/IL border and the 3 shops in NE Illinois that carry Surly are selling out super quick on coffee bender and Furious. How is the availability of Coffee Bender and Furious closer to the city? Was wondering if it was worth a trip.

I saw a whole brunch of Smoke on a shelf at a Binny's; $18 as well. I wanted to buy a bottle, but I don't think could spend that much on a bottle of a beer I'm not familiar with; whether smoked or not. I will admit, however, for two dollars more, I brought a bottle of Firestone Walker 17th Anniversary. I had it on tap last week and loved it.

Edit: When I said "smoked or not", I meant I'm not too familiar with smoked beer.

Well, obviously Coffee Bender and Furious are the most popular, more so for Coffee. I would recommend giving the Skokie Binny's location a try. It might be too far for you. But keep trying the area around you and ask when the shops get it shipments. Hope that help.

By the way, to those wondering, the Smoke I saw were at the Lincoln Park location.

Have you guys been seeing Surly? After the first wave, I haven't seen much besides Hell. Unless I just have terrible timing.

It's consistently been on sale at the Binny's I've visited (Marcy St. & Skokie) and my local shops in Andersonville. Typically, I've seen Coffee Bender, OverRated, Furious, CynicAle, and Smoke.

I haven't had any problem finding it. Overrated and Furious sell the fastest, but they're definitely still around.
