I noticed a lot of bottle shops have recently received last years Surly Darkness. Did Surly not release all their bottles to dis trio or did the distributors hold back bottles to release to bottle shops now?
Since I was specifically asking about Wisconsin bottle shops I thought it would be appropriate here....my bad.
To be fair also, the profile thing on the side says Wisconsin which, to me, implies they're talking about Wisconsin. To the OP's point: No answer here. It could be either. When all of that BCBS Rare showed up earlier this year I do believe that was a distributor thing. This may well have been the same case. How widespread are the bottles available? Just in one town/area?
How are we supposed to know he did not move? haha just kidding. At this point I'm just being facetious.
Sorry, had a moment of internet pissiness. It'll pass in a sec. Anyway, someone over in the Midwest section said Surly held some Darkness back to build up to Darkness Day 2017.
I think it was as GI thing, their taproom was stocked and they sold them on Prop Day so I'm guessing they held stuff back, not the distributor...and I believe they probably will dump as much this year as they did last year into the market....
The reason I say that was likely a distributor thing is because nobody other than Lakeshore Beverage got it. Chicago saw it, we got it down in Bloomington/Normal (also Lakeshore)... Champaign, Peoria, yadda yadda... not a bottle of it. If GI had held it back, I'd think it would've gone to their larger distribution accounts across the country.
Twin cities got a big Darkness drop this week as well. Sounds like all distro markets got some so I would think it is Surly holding back and not multiple distributors.
2017 bottles start getting waxed this week, could be clearing out inventory to make room for the new bottles.
General Darkness question for the Surly experts: Was the regular 2014 Darkness BBA? Or is it just an imperial stout like the rest of them in the Darkness series. Because I don't think there is a BBA Darkness and a regular Darkness in 2014? Or am I wrong?
2014 was a blend of regular & BA Darkness. If I recall the story correctly, Surly was in the latter stages of building their big, shiny new brewery & couldn't afford to have Darkness sitting around in the tanks while they could barely keep up with their regular rotation. So they stuck a bunch of it in barrels to get it out of the tanks. Wallah. Partial BA Darkness.
Ahh, ok. That's actually kind of cool. That probably inspired them to start the BBA series the following year. Thanks!
