    Here we go again, right?

    I think I got a rewaxed Darkness 2014 but I can't be sure.

    Here's a picture: http://imgur.com/NnP9Vg9

I unfortunately can't be certain if I got it from a BA'er or from another trade because I did them both in-person on the same day and I can't be 100% which bottle came from which person.

This wax looks nothing like the wax normally on Darkness bottles except for it is the same color. I know Surly uses volunteers to wax dip so I'm sure it's possible that one of the volunteers just did a crappy job.

Mostly wondering if there is a chance that surly would release a bottle this poorly waxed?

And also, I can't recall what the bottle cap should look like underneath the wax. Does Surly use a logo'd bottle cap or is just a plain one?

I'm gonna peel the wax off when I'm ready to drink it and hope that the cap looks right. Fill level looks right compared to legit bottles I have.

This isn't a whale or anything so not trying to start a witch hunt, just legitimately curious as to the odds of this being rewaxed.

Looks legit to me. Probably just a bad dip.

From this photo from a couple of the hauls, I don't think it's a stretch that they did a poor wax job on your bottle. No one in their right mind would re-cap and re-wax a Darkness.

Cool, I've never seen one that was so thick on the top and didn't have the "strings" hanging down. Check out the one in the background for reference.

All my other ones look significantly different.

I've actually consumed a bottle that had a wax job like that. It was legit.

I appreciate the responses guys. I was hoping to hear that others had seen similar wax jobs. I'm sure it is just a case of a new volunteer or a drunk volunteer not dipping the same as others.

I can confirm I have/had at least one that looked like that and it came that way from the store.

Surly does not use logos on their bottle cap. Can't remember the color, think they are gold/brass or silver.

Can't always go by caps. I had a bottle of Triple C BBA Up All Night and it had a plain cap under wax. I also bought a bottle of regular Up All Night and it had a white cap with their logo.

Legit. Surly asks for volunteers for bottle dipping and some dippers are better than others. Besides, Darkness is easy to get, hence I wouldn't see the point in messing with something relatively common.
