    Hey guys,

I've been wanting to get my hands on some Darkness lately, never tried it. I was wondering how hard it is to get? Whats the trade value of it?

Just trying to get an idea of what kind of trade I'll have to make to get it. If anyone reads this and wants to work out a trade let me know!

    Thanks

In my experience, it is not terribly easy to land. I managed to set up an in person trade in Chicago 1:1 for a 2011 abyss. Which from what I understand, I kindof lucked out.

It only hits certain shelves within the Surly market (many Twin Cities metro shops) and at most* of those stores it lasts only a few hours, and almost always has a bottle limit.

*Some outer metro suburban shops might sit on their single case for about a week. You should keep in mind that those shops will charge more than a lot of the shops downtown since they have to buy through Surly's distributor.

It's not a brewery-only release but it might as well be. I fucking hate the Darkness hunt, but I guess it's worth it.

    2012 label is pretty sick:

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm starting to get a better idea of what I would need to give up. Also, that 2012 label does look pretty awesome.

Lobo, check your inbox, maybe we can work something out.

    Thanks again guys,

I have traded for Darkness a few times. Stuff like Dark Lord and Mother of all Storms usually gets it done. I have also traded Black Tuesday for a Darkness and Surly anniversary.

I've traded Darkness for Dark Lords and Bruery Sours (Filmishmish and Sans Pagaie).

Darkness Day is one of the easier releases to navigate in my opinion. There is a six bottle limit and after a certain point you can buy more.

Usually brewery only releases and harder to find BA beers and sours get it done. Ive traded 750 mls of off the shelf cantillon, dark lord, HotD stuff, and hill farmstead IPA growlers. It's one of my favorite non barell aged impy stouts, and ages very well. I recently had a 2010 bottle and it was perfect!

I got a little lucky as I just got two bottles of syx, 1 darkness, and some ots surly stuff for 3 bottles of supplication and 3 temptation. Have been looking for syx for a while and was excited when I got this trade done.

Your standard imperial stouts (DL, Kate, BT) should get it done at 1:1. You might need something like Backwoods (x2) if you got that route.

I traded a Zhukov and a Victory at Sea for one last year. Darkness seems easier to land than some of the other stouts that its typically grouped with, like Dark Lord, even though Id take it over DL any day of the week.

You have no idea I think.

    Edit: Also, Backwoods? Really?

My personal experience with trading was more like KBS-Darkness-BCBCS-DL-BT-CBS. Kate seems to go for much more than all of the others from my experience.

And interestingly, I was not able to ever land a trade for regular BCBS (although a great BA generously extra'd me one, thanks Douglasjamjak!), generally offering the same things I did to land all of the others, which is odd.

I traded a Darkness last year for a DL '11, so I don't think it's that uncommon. BT and Kate may have lower percentages because of slight differences in the product, but I think most would find it fair. Then again, trading standards are completely subjective, which is its beauty and its downfall.
