Surly Eight Ale Label

It was one of the Andy's Liquor locations in Rochester, which I believe have a fairly good reputation. I think the standard price on this bottle a couple of years ago was a bit higher.

 

Southerners can correct me if I'm off, but I remember seeing a lot of chatter about Surly being priced higher in Rochester & the southern part of het state. Unless you wandered into a wolf's den, it was $19.99 the last time around, though I saw it as high as $23.99 in the Twin Cities. The previous release was priced lower.

 

From what I have seen, it really depends where you buy it. Smaller and non-chair stores seem to charge more (seen $22 to $30) while it seemed larger stores and chains were charging $20 for Darkness and Pentagram this year.

 

Rochester's Surly prices are always higher than the cities, which we get through Schott Distributing. Pentagram and Darkness run $25.99 at most places and we are about $2 higher on the regular line up.

It'll be nice to try this at ABR before bottles hit distro. Hopefully it'll help frame what kind of a mad grab it'll be to get it in stores.

 

With how long 6 and 7 sat on shelves in not sure what to expect for 8

 

I think most people will be more interested in a rye barrel-aged oat wine than a big-ass old ale or Brett golden strong.

It was today at ABR and it was damn tasty.

 

I'm guessing we might see this hit shelves soon since they "released" it at ABR.

 

I hope not. It was close to straight whiskey to me, nothing much beery underneath. Much like Syx, it just didn't taste like much, neither bad nor good. Reactions seemed about 50/50 whether it was "meh" or "great!". I love me some strong barrel taste in my beer, but I like some beer taste, too. Optimistic that this is still developing & the booziness will die back & let the beer up for air.

 

Since 8 has been bottled and waxed I don't think Surly will wait long to send it out, especially with Darkness & Smoke bombers upcoming.

It will be released sometime after Darkness Day, pushed back from initial roll out. Not all of the bottles are waxed yet.
