Where exactly did I say that flagship beers are inherently overated/inferior? For the purpose of discussion I was comparing two specific flagship beers from two specific and very popular midwest craft breweries. Both of these craft breweries have limited production capabilities and commit a good amount of that limited production to the flagship brand. You chose to fabricate the "inherently overated because they are popular" premise on your own.

I find Summit EPA to be very underated by most craft beer enthusiasts. I prefer fresh Two Hearted over almost any readily available Bell's offering out there. How much more flagship can you get than those two (again) very specific examples.

Happy you like Furious and defend it's honor. I like it too but believe that Coffee Bender, Bitter Brewer and Abrasive are better. Not even mentioning less available options like Pentagram, Wet, Surlyfest, Darkness, Cacao Bender etc.

    Signed,

    Dismissive Beer Hipster

I've heard from many people that the recipe has changed. I cracked into one last night, thinking "It can't be true. One of my favorite beers and one of the best beers of all time would not be changed." Sure enough, it's a different beer now.

This beer made craft beer for me, it was my favorite beer for the longest time, and it's a shell of what it once was. I won't purchase or recommend it again until it's back to its former self.

Very little hop flavor and hop aroma now.

Or has your palette changed? I drink Furious regularly, and while it doesn't stand up to the dipas that dominate the headlines this time of year, it's not a shell of its former self IMHO. There are many more offerings in the market and from the market than when Furious first hit, more choice, different profiles, all great.

Give me a fucking break. I assure you, it's not the beer that has changed, it's you.

I'm sorry but I can assure you that the ingredient mix in Furious has 'slightly' changed. I'm sure that Surly would claim it is the same but it has changed. Sorry but I can't let you know how I know.

Beers evolve, I accept that. Slight tweaks occur often enough for a variety of reasons. That's brewing. However, when brewers do make changes they make sure not to adversely affect the overall integrity of the beer.

Ha! No, I wouldn't have to kill you but I would probably be in trouble at my job.

The recipe has, in fact changed. I heard so a while back. What I've been told, so mind you please don't kill the messenger, is the brewers take turns peeing into the wort. This also then explains the significant batch-to-batch variation. I remember one unfortunate four pack that had a distinct pungent aroma, reminiscent of asparagus.

Surly? I'd buy that. They seem like a bunch of asparagus munching tree huggers.

I don't get the Saga thing. Just not my beer at all. Furious is way better. Everybody has a different pallete but Saga is just not that good to me. Cheers to those who think Saga is even near the beer. I can't imagine how. But that's just me. I don't understand the saga craze.

It's just a matter of opinion and I don't get why it's argued and brought up so much here. They are both really good beers. Different flavors. I prefer Saga for an everyday/all day drinker compared to Furious, but I'm a huge surly fan as well. I wish we could all just get along!

They tweaked it from the earliest recipe, I know that. Have they changed it again since?

I love Furious and Saga, but would take a Size 7 over either for an everyday/all day drinker from Mpls. Uh oh, maybe my tastes are off too?

I do enjoy Size 7 as well. really I just like good beer and honestly haven't narrowed into just one beer that'd be my go to. That's no fun. So many good beers to try. Closest I would say is2-hearted, but that's not local, so my rep is ruined.

Quick question for the saga lovers out there. I myself consider it to be a fine brew. Not great but certainly drinkable. If saga was in line with the cost of other IPA 6 packs, say 10-12 dollars, would you love it as much? Would you purchase it as often?
