Lots of seasonal/limited releases from Surly already this year, I love it. Bitter brewer, Blakkr, Pentagram, Smoke, hopefully Misanthrope and wet. The list goes on

I'm certain Nein will be higher ABV and hopefully more complex, but if anyone is intrigued to try this "style," Hammerheart has an 8.4% oak smoked hefe on tap right now. Actually pretty damn tasty!

to be fair, I believe eight only sits on shelves because of the weird sourness that seems to be previlent in most bottles. I would have bought much more if it tasted like it did on tap at the release.

This is probably true. I thought 8 was an incredible beer, but I stopped by bottles once I heard about the potential sourness.

I might be lucky, but I broke out a bottle 2 weeks ago and no sourness what-so-ever.

Yeah the potential "infection" issue really killed sales. I bought 3 bottles, drank two and traded one. The two I drank were incredible.

I drank a bottle of Eight last weekend and noticed some brettiness on the first smell and few sips, but once I had a couple sips, didn't really pick it up anymore and the beer was tasting great. So on the infection front, I'd call it a mixed result - possibly slightly present, but still good.

just came from a liquor store in Mpls that had at least 12 bottles of 8 sitting on the shelf along side the same number of Smoke and Pentagram.

I know it's been discussed to death, but I agree with your assessment... I had one that was as sour as pentagram, a few that had hints of sourness (especially in the aroma), and a couple that were perfect sweet marshmellow-y, carmel, whiskey flavors (which is what I would expect).

The one I had this weekend was not sour... But there was something off on the smell
But luckily it didn't translate to the taste... Yet

Was Seven the one that facilitated time travel, or was that Eight? I can't seem to remember.

Just had Nein on cask with star anise at the All Pints North beer festival in Duluth. The cask "ddnt't carb up like they thought it would," so take this with a grain of whatever salt you choose to take it with: It had a big tarred banana (yeah, that's what came to my palate) note up front, followed with the faintest smoky, roasty, chocolate malt flavor. It was by far my least favorite surly anniversary beer I've had up until now (and, I'd categorize myself as a Surly "fanboy"). It lacked complexity, depth, and intensity.

Not surprised...lets just hope Surly doesn't take any more trips to Germany in the future.
