We call it "the pike" between LaCrosse WI and LaCrescent MN.
It was a 2 week special around the 4th of July so it's back to full prices now. Over Rated and Furious were not included and I went heavy with the Abrasive at that price, I even asked the checkout guy if it was some kind of mistake!

Saga and Furious are both staples in my fridge. Can't say one is better than the other since they are at two completely different ends of the spectrum when it comes to the style.

So what's the OP thinking? A simple, innocent question has ballooned into us locals bitching about what's better between two great, easily accessible local beers.

Sommer Vice is way better than Shenanigans BTW.

Since this thread has been officially high jacked to a Furious/Saga comparison thread I'll add my own worthless opinion.

Saga is an OK IPA, Furious is a good IPA (maybe even damn good). I do think Furious is overpriced, but I'd take it over Saga anytime. I am very interested in the different hop variety Sagas available at the summit tap room, but what I get in the bottle just doesn't do it for me. I don't get the opportunity to visit the tap room very often, so being left with the choice of Furious, or Saga I'll go for a 12 pack of Deschutes Inversion IPA for $11.99 every time.

Well said, although I would get SNPA over Inversion, something about Inversion just doesn't do it for me. Tastes like a "lager IPA" would if such a thing existed (to me)

This exists and its very good. Jack's Abbey makes Hoponius Union. Im not much of a lager drinker but this one supprised me. Their Smoke and Dagger was also very good.

Since its OT at this point, Furious is a better beer than Saga if you only look at taste (IMO). However, for the same price, I choose Saga most of the time. As said before, they're at different ends of the IPA spectrum, so it really just depends on what you're in the mood for.

I suppose that is true of American Pale Lagers, all I've had from JA is the wonderful porter.

Not a mistake, the last canning of Abrasive was in early March so the beer was almost 5 months old.

Whoa whoa whoa, back that train up. Can I assume by the lack of emoticons that this is not a joke?

Total sarcasm. I like both. Dont really prefer one to the other. Now if we're talking about Wodenweiss...

Ha, just checking. And since this thread is already off topic, I will say that I was very underwhelmed by Sommer Vice. Not bad, but not anything I'd go out of my way for again. I thought Shenanigans was nice though.

So for the next person I hire from Minnesota, what should I ask them to bring me? I appreciate absolutely any style beer, some more than others of course, but when I ask people to bring local beer I don't care what it is as long as it's representative of their area.

I can't get that down where I live, you pretty much have to go to Albuquerque for it.

Currently: Steel Toe is rocking it. Great IPAs coming out of there, Fulton is solid and decent overall. Dangerous man is a local operation with growlers only and I very much enjoy their belgian styles. Of course Surly. Indeed is also putting out some great options. Hard to miss really with most of those.

I'd ask for a 6 of Hop Dish from Liftbridge. It is magical stuff. Ovalde Farm also has a couple unique and great brews.

Big second on Olvalde. Brau Bros is another good choice.

If you're willing to branch out into Wisconsin, there's always Central Waters, New Glarus, and Tyranena to name a small few.
