Are Todd the Axeman cans always available around IA/MN/WI? Heading to the area next month and hoping to find some.

Also, what are the chances of either finding some Darkness on the shelf somewhere or trading for some? If I have a bottle of HF Genealogy do you think it'd be able to fetch Darkness?

This week Wisconsin got a shipment of 3/31 cans of Todd. This is the second delivery of Todd for the year so far. Hopefully more to come.

Of course WI did. TC can't get 2 week old Todd, but Wi can.

Todd has been more widely available of late. I don't remember the details, but there was some kind of announcement last year that Todd would be available on draft year round, and there was more availability on cans, but not sure how much more available. There was a drop in Des Moines today. I think that's like the third or fourth drop so far this year. It's also on tap at a few places currently.

It will be running for a bit still. We will be getting Todd cans for the 5/2 Nebraska launch

I am drinking a 3/31 Todd right now, obtained at Devils Glen Hy-Vee Bettendorf...it is drinking very well... soon to fire up the vintage Marantz receiver and stacked Advents...that is all.

Todd shouldn't be a problem to find depending on where you're visiting. Odds of finding darkness at a store are slim to none (unless there's some sort of cellar sale or something). Trading for it shouldn't be a problem as I'm sure there are tons of people sitting on extra bottles. And I don't see why genealogy couldn't pull it. Good luck

This old thread seemed like an appropriate place to ask: Does the brew hall allow outside bottles? I'm flying into MSP from Tampa today and plan on heading to Surly at some point. I was thinking of bringing some of the Cycle Anniversary beers from this week to share with folks, but don't want to bring outside beers where they're not welcome! (I'd call the brewery but they're not open before I head to the airport and figured someone here might know!)

    Thanks for any help!

I would think not. I've actually never seen anyone open outside bottles at a brewery in MN, but I see it done all the time in other states that I've visited.

Totally agree. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!!!!

If they shut you out, just post again and you'll find a trade or someone to meet you close by to help drink them!

Thanks for the feedback--that's why I asked. Some places don't mind (or even appreciate) people bringing in outside bottles to share (as long as all proper etiquette is followed re: tipping, sharing with staff, etc). Other places will call the cops on you due to strict laws or just internal policy.

If you guys haven't seen it, then I suspect it's not allowed. I'm bringing some, and I'll just call Surly before we head over to check.

    Thanks again!

I suspect this may have been ok at the old brewery when most of the staff were volunteers and things were more lax. The new brewery is huge and definitely a professionally-run operation. I would think your best best would be to go during off hours, leave the bottles in the car and ask the bartender what the policy is. Worst case scenario, you could trade those cycle anniversary beers to a local...

I'm actually curious now if there are breweries that would allow outside bottles. @Oneeighthcuban can we bottle share at Sisyphus?

Maybe you could even phone / email a nearby bar and see if they would allow a bottle share?

Stub & Herbs is close by, and some years back I organized a barleywine tasting there. They had (and I think still have) a basement space that works great for small groups, and charged us a per-bottle corking fee. Of course, nowadays they have a great patio area, and best of all they are a quick 'n easy train ride to the brewery.

Where do you all meet for shares typically? Strictly at each other's places? Are profit-loving MSP bars and breweries actively oppressing beer geeks like us into the shadow of night?

You've really unroofed a major deficit in the beer scene here!

Well that's a good question. I have not seen this too often here in Minneapolis( but have seen it in several other states) and why not? Does any one know if this is legal or just up to the establishments?

Pretty sure it's just up to the establishment, since I've been to a few places in Woodbury & Minneapolis (including Stub & Herb's) that allow it. But since they're losing potential alcohol revenue if they allow outside bottles...well, you can see why restaurants & bars wouldn't be wild about the idea.

I have had one of the owners of Muddy Waters tell me it is against the law in Minneapolis for a bar to allow outside beer in but it is allowed for wine. How true that is, I have no idea.
