I consumed two bottles of Syx and have to say I was very, very, pleased with everything about the beer.

I think it tasted like rubbing alcohol, just my opinion.

Drank half a Syx at Darkness Day. Probably how I managed to sleep for 3 hours.

Syx had a better mouth feel than isopropyl, IMO!!!

I'm a big fan of Syx although I can see why some don't like it. To me, it's very complex with a ton of flavors. The high AC makes deciphering it difficult, but it won't stop me from trying! On tap, it reminded me a bit of Lagunitas Lucky 13 just with way more gravity. I had one of my bombers last week. I wish I took some notes but I just enjoyed it while watching football. I can tell you that I woke up feeling it the next morning!

Taste is very subjective, but why replace the anniversary beer with a beer they already brew?
To date I have loved the cranberry dark lager (was that two?), hated three (braggot), thinks four ( espresso iced milk stout) might have been the best beer they ever made and would take it over darkness honestly, love five as I am progressing into sours, and can't stand syx but will age my one bottle anyway.

Do we really need to love everything they put out?

What was One? I can't remember.

It was a sort of doppelbock type beer, but not quite a doppelbock.

darkness can then become the rotating beer, you never know what kind of beer it will be the next year

All this talk I hear about surly four is depressing...namely because it is right up my alley and i will never have the privilege of trying it :slight_frown:

P.s. I loved syx, perhaps my palate

They had some at ABR last year. Had Surly Two through Five. There may be a few kegs around somewhere just waiting to be tapped, you never know... In the meantime, you can just stare at my Adam Turman Surly Four test print avatar.

Surly Five & Syx are unbelievable on tap! Syx wasn't amazing fresh in the bottle, but looking forward to drinking it with a little age on it.

Haven't had Five in the bottle yet but it really was superb on tap. Don't give up on them if you haven't had them on tap yet!

I'm in the opinion that SYX will be stellar with a couple of years on it. I thought it was too hot when we had it the week of release. A great complex profile but overpowered by the alcohol. Hopefully it will mellow a bit in the years to come.
