A buddy of mine in Minnesota is going to send me some Surly. Can anyone help me with what will be easy to acquire and what is recommended? I like all styles. Thanks and Cheers.

Bender, Hell, CynicAle, Furious, and Overrated should be easy to find and possibly Blakkr, Doomtree and Coffee Bender as well.

Of those, Overrated is my favorite.

Furious, over rated, pentagram and Blakkr are your best bet right now.

Abrasive is still out there too and holds up pretty well.

I'm guessing they're all in cans?

all but Pentagram are in cans.

Doomtree and Abrasive are around, but may take a little searching. personally, dont think Doomtree is worth the hunt.

With a little bit of footwork , should be able to find almost any canned Surly. Abrasive is certainly a must try. Would also recommend Blakkr and Furious for a more rounded idea of what Surly does. I still see Eight around which is actually tasting quite well right now as well. Would personally avoid Hell, Cynic, and Overrated as they are all rather generic in profile. Two cents.

If you like moderately balanced rauchbiers, Smoke in bombers is easy to find right now. Even if you don't like the style, it ages beautifully and the "campfire" aspect, while smooth fresh, rounds out quite a bit after 6-8 months.

Thanks everyone. Now I'm going to get greedy. Anything else up there that only sees Midwest distribution? I really want to try New Glarus but I'm not sure of its distro.

New Glarus is Wisconsin distro only. Your buddy can drive to Hudson and pick up NG.

I would shoot for Furious over Overrated. Overrated is kinda overrated.

If you are looking for more beer, Bent Paddle has been putting out some great beer, Cold Press and Harness the Winter being my favorites. There is also Indeed (Day Tripper, Let it Ride and Midnight Ryder), Steel Toe (Size 7) and Lift Bridge (Hop Dish and Farm Girl) that are all great beers.

Is Harness still around? I'm gonna be in the cities next week and would LOVE to pick up a sixer of it.

Bent Paddle Harness the Winter? If so, yes, should be easy to find.

That's awesome! I wasn't sure how limited it was. Seems like it has been on shelves for a while now so I figured I was out of luck. Thanks!

I heard it was a seasonal, but I have seen it everywhere Bent Paddle is sold. Same with Cold Press, someone saidnitnwas done for the season, but it is still all over the place.

Smoke is definitely not a rauch bier.
