Headed to Arizona in mid March for some spring training fun, sky island birding and a train ride in Green Gulch.

Any recommendations for the Surprise area. Just looking for fun, relaxing and good beer.

Surprise has State 48 and OHSO, they are fun restaurants / breweries not the best beer but ok.. Wren House is the best in the Phoenix area but thats like a 20 minute drive from Surprise.

Of the 2 @Beaverhuntr mentioned i like State 48 a little better than OHSO . OHSO is in a new shopping center called Prasada , there is a Total Wine located there also For a taproom and very close to the ball fields you could try Tap House Sports Grill , they offer flights and have a lot of AZ brews ,nothing over the top though with good bar food .

A late report. We returned last week from our trip and had a great time.

On the way in we stayed two nights in the Chiricahua Mtns in Paradise at the historic George Walker House for some early but excellent birding. Lunched in nearby Portal and had some tasty Dragoon lager there.

On the way to Phoenix we stopped in Borderlands Brewing for a cider and their IPA and some tacos. Good beer and food but we were getting a little pissy with each other about who was supposed to be doing what with our itinerary. Didn't pay a lot of attention to the beer. Lol

In Phoenix we were able to visit State 48, OHSO, and Wren House. State 48 and OHSO were fun with good food. Wren House topped them all with a great IPA. I had Dragoon IPA at one game in Surprise and super fresh Stone IPA at a game in Peoria. Really decent prices!

One day we took the Verde Canyon Railroad tour. They served a good ipa, Tapco IPA from Uncle Bear's brewery. Train ride is touristy, but DAMN, is it beautiful! Recommend!

We loaded up with Wren House Wrenovation IPA, Wren House Lady Banks Hibiscus Rose Gose, Tombstone IPA, Dragoon IPA and just because we drove through New Mexico, lots of La Cumbre Elevated IPA.

Thanks for pointing us to some great spots!
