Who is going to 420 Fest? Who has been before? What should I expect? Where is the best beer? What perks come along with having a wristband and VIP access? I'm looking for more info than the website provides!!

I started working for a distributorship here in Durham 2 months ago, and somehow I lucked into a wristband for the fest this weekend. We have full access to all of the VIP areas and the Honey Hole. I don't even know what the Honey Hole is, but I'm hoping that's where they serve all of the one-off fest beer. The music line-up looks pretty amazing and it should be a pretty awesome weekend. I'd love to hear some stories and get the low-down on what it's all about.

Never been (shame on me as I used to live in Atlanta), but I've heard it's a fun time!

Be prepared to smell weed in the air.

I think I can handle that. I did live in Denver for 5 years after all.

I'll be there! I haven't been in a few years and have never been to one in Centennial Park (the last one I went to was in Candler Park). Saturday is going to be an amazing day of music. Marc Broussard > Wood Brothers > Anders Osborne > Gov't Mule > Primus is money.

Can't really answer your questions, but I'd recommend spending a few hours Friday afternoon just wandering around and taking in your surroundings. Have fun and stay safe.

Sounds like a plan. We are getting down there very early and we aren't leaving until Monday, so I will have the opportunity to be at the venue for the entirety of the fest. I'm really looking forward to the one-off beers, Thievery Corp., Cage the Elephant, and of course Snoop.

Gov't Mule is worth the price of admission....anything else is an extra....

Luckily for me, there is no price of admission. I will be trying to see them as well.

Some mod moved this to the wrong place.

It's nothing special beer related, they'll just be pouring the standard Sweetwater lineup. I've been twice and only saw 420, IPA, Blue, Brown. They may have Road Trip or another seasonal, but don't expect any rare stuff or vintage beers. This is a music/arts festival, not a beer festival. The music is cool and there's plenty of unique vendors to look over, but otherwise it's a very low key event.

Haven't been since it was free at Candler Park. Finally knocking some bands off my "have to see at some point in life" list. You're probably looking at a day of drinking their core. Hopefully there is all day re-entry so I can go to CNN Center for a beer that isn't Sweetwater.

Anyone hitting up Dan Deacon for a latenight show at Mammal Gallery on Saturday?

You're mostly right, but they have one tent where you can buy samples of one-offs and vintage beers.

Last year the samples were pretty expensive. The barrel-aged happy ending/exodus blend was really good, much better than barrel aged happy ending actually. Also liked the sour ga brown.

If you have a 3 day wristband you can re-enter once per day. If you're just going for one day then you're stuck there. Like I said above, they have the special kegs but I don't think they do full pours, and they can get expensive pretty quickly.

Well damn, this is new for them then. In 2010 and 2011 there was no such thing.

I imagine the 420 Fest DIPA they made will be poured with the standard rotation as well. Does anyone remember how much a pint was last year?

Looking forward to the tasting tent!

I don't have a pass. I have a VIP wristband that says Honey Hole on it. Apparently it's the "cool kids" VIP pass according to my Sweetwater rep. From what I understand it gives me full access to every area of the venue, plus some other perks. I'm looking forward to kegs and eggs on Saturday morning.
