ill b going over to Switzerland, hopefully in the fall. Will be in Zurich mostly. Any suggestions on places and beers are appreciated.
Friend of mine always brings some beers of Stadguet, S&A Brewing and Doppellue Brauwerkstatt when he visits me. All of them aren’t from the city of Zurich but the district. Although I think you will find them in the city as well. All decent breweries. If you travel by train you can visit the Beer Of The World shop that’s situated in the train station to pickup some beers.
Actually the name is Drinks of the World. This chain also has stores in or near the railway stations of Basel, Bern and Geneve.
I used to always make time for a beer or two at Brasserie Federal in the Zürich HB. The draft selections were not that exciting but always one or two worth having and they had a great bottle selection. This assumes, of course, that they survive COVID, and it has been many years since I was last there so YMMV. It's a long way from Zürich but if you run across any Monsteiner beers (from Monstein-Davos) they are worth trying. Franconian trained brewer (at least back in the day...)
The best Swiss beers come from the French speaking regions in my opinion. Breweries like BFM, A tue-tete, Hoppy People, White Frontier and so on. This country guide on this website will be of some use: https://www.bov.ch However, all bars and restaurants are closed for the time being. I am based in Bern but can travel to Zurich, send me a pm if you fancy a doing a trade Cheers
BFM (Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes) in Saignelégier (not close to Zurich, but you might find it in taverns). They are known for untraditional beers. They have a beer that incorporates sage that I really like, enough that I'll now sometimes crush a fresh sage leaf into a beer, since I haven't been able to find their beer lately. You can read a little about them here.
