SWTFYW Hints and Hauls!!!

OK- so I want to give away more beer. This is going to be a different kind of LIF though. I’m not sending beer to one of you, I’m sending beer to someone you know. In a week and a half, I’m heading to Grand Rapids to buy 12 bottles of KBS. KBS was THE beer that turned me into the complete craft beer nerd that I am today. So I want to give some of it away.

So here’s what you have to do- tell us all who you think should get the box and why (no names if you don’t want to- but I’ll obviously need it later to ship). A few qualifications:
- They cannot have regular access to KBS. I’d like it if they have never had it, but if they’re friends or acquaintances of you guys they may have tried it once or twice.
- They can’t already be huge beer nerds. Maybe it’s someone who likes good beer, but hasn’t gone off the deep end yet. Maybe it’s someone new to craft who hasn’t had the chance to try a lot of stuff yet. You guys get the idea- basically someone who digs trying new beers but hasn’t started trading or actively searching out rarer stuff. If you have a question, just BM me.
- I will forego both of these qualifications if you know someone who just NEEDS something good to happen to them. If you know someone going through a rough time that could use a pick me up- that’s allowable.

You can only enter one person. Nominate someone by posting in the thread with the reason why they should get it. Tag me in the post so I can easily find it. The entry that gets the most likes will get the box with a KBS and some other good beers. This will close on Sunday 3-15.

If I don’t get any entries I’ll just do a poop LIF in a couple weeks.

I will nominate a lady named Claire i have been dropping beers on her desk for the last few months and trying to get her to be more into craft, she works for the Make a wish foundation in my building, I've learned she loves BB stouts. She is a really nice person who wants to get into craft beer but her work priorities are first and for most witch i agree with, as i donate time and cash to their cause.

Hi Roger! Nice one.

So I'm going to nominate my close friend Gary. Gary has been a really inspirational character in my life. He was lost career-wise when his wife gave birth to a baby with Downes Syndrome. They were just a few years removed from college--by far the first of our friends to have a kid. But from the very first moment Gary and his wife were all positivity. I can still hear the message on my answering machine.

"Hey guys, this is Gary. Kathy gave birth last night to a beautiful baby boy. We're naming him Eliot. He's totally healthy and wonderful. We found out this morning that he has Downes Syndrome. We're totally ready to begin this adventure and do everything in our ability to learn about how to help him become the happiest, best person he can be."

Many couples break up over such an event, but not these guys. It only made them stronger. And Gary found a career despite the setback. He became a librarian at a small private university and then quickly climbed all the way up to IT director. My buddy Gary, we had do much fun when we discovered that he hires and fires people.

Gary inspired me (and still inspires me) to try my best and reach beyond what I already can do. I owe much of what I do to Gary, indirectly. He inspired me to write, to look for a new and better teaching job and most importantly to love up my family.

The dude runs, bikes, swims, takes his kids on all sorts of adventures. But above all, he's always been fun and generous, the life of the party but also someone who's there to talk for real.

Gary is not a beer nerd by any stretch, but he's learned recently that he loves barrel aged beers. This all began when he came along for the ride on a beer trek to Vermont. First he discovered Bourbon County (on tap somewhere in Waterbury). Then his eyes were opened as he surveyed the scene at Hill Farmstead. It was fun to watch his reaction as people came out of the woodwork to form a LONG line, all before noon on a remote hilltop in northern Vermont. He still has no clue what's out there, but whenever he sees BCBC he grabs it up and quickly makes it disappear.

I do not believe Gary has ever had KBS.

 

The more I think about this, the more I go back and forth. Let me see if I can do this without tearing up...

The guy I want to nominate has always been there for me. I can call him day or night and he will always answer my calls. If I have a question, he usually has the answer and if not, will find out for me within a natter of minutes. He has helped me in pretty much every aspect of my life. Whether its helping me out when I get in a car accident, if I need to take the wife or child to the doctor, or if I need some repair work done to the house. Having someone available 24/7/365 is a huge sigh of relief.

Right, or just doesn't care enough to seek it out or even knows what it is. Or maybe has had bad luck in getting it.
