Thank you so much!!! this has been super helpful.

Sorry to miss you guys, but hopefully we'll be back down sometime soon for a real trip. Glad to hear Husk is the place to go! I've never been into bourbon until a couple of months ago where I had some Buffalo Trace neat, and it blew me away. I've been trying more and more recently.

I'll definitely try to hit up as many of these spots as I can without the wife throwing a fit.

Have fun at the Avett Brothers concert, I'm pretty jealous!! My wife and I saw them in San Fran years ago when there were still unknown and have been following them ever since.

There isn't a whole lot to it if you're not running a commercial operation. Basically you need the right soil quality, lots of sun, a watering schedule (depending on rainfall), and something to train the bines on. You may need to learn more about pests/mold/etc. if your area is susceptible to them. Unfortunately I don't know of any specific resources offhand, but if you Google it and read a few articles, you'll get the gist. But put your order in for rhizomes now if you can. If it's like how it is around here, there's a mad dash for them as we get closer to spring.

    Good luck!

You know... some goldfish in a bag would be epic... talk about a noise maker when shook.

In college, I knew a kid.. well.. partied with him frequently, who would swallow goldfish alive and whole after drinking.

Managed to keep it down for around 30 mins, and get it back up, and into the tank.. Fish managed to see his insides 4 times before finally coming up dead one night.

    Pretty damn disgusting.

A friend and I are seriously thinking about growing some. It's not a huge deal on the small scale, though you have to be careful to harvest at exactly the right time. On the larger scale we're looking at, it seems that there's quite a bit of cash needed and then equipment for harvest and processing.

Or, how about you host BS3 at the hop farm, and everybody has to pick their weight in hops before they can begin drinking?
    Win, win, right?

I had that kind of idea at first but then read some strict warnings to NOT bring in craft nerds for harvest. But this crew might be another story.

    Another Thursday, another winter storm.
Half inch of solid ice on all the roads, city is shut down again.
Couldn't make it to krispy kreme in time so it's BBQ beagle for dinner.
Any ideas on what that would pair well with?

Yup. Had three different varieties growing at the house I sold last year. Didn't take any rhizomes with me. Sucks because I had three years into them. Starting over in the spring at my new place.

They really are easy to grow. Just attracts lots of Aphids, but those are easy enough to deal with.

The drawback of living 3 miles from work is that I'm the one that is always able to get here.
Been sitting here watching it snow all day, now it's turning to ice time for me to head home and start drinking.

Gravity check was a great session IPA. Would make more sense to can it id think but delicious nonetheless. General Sherman was very good but probably suffered a bit from being last of the IPAs to be cracked. Still a great beer.

since you're in a similar climate as I am, what hop varieties did you grow / would you recommend for our area? Looking to get some rhizomes myself

Yeah he is, at least until you get a couple of beers in him. Then he's all like FHRitP and stuff (and things).

I grew Cascade, Nugget, and Chinook. Nugget was temperamental for the first year. But after established good roots, it's takes good source of water and nutrients. The other two are hearty and took off like a rocket.
