I would love to try this out, hoping they reach their goal.

You can fill growlers at gas stations and grocery stores?

some states have drive through growl fill places and yes gas stations and grocery stores like whole foods. In california only breweries can fill growlers with their brew :slight_frown:

I was reading about this system last night and I checked out the kickstarter page, it is whole interchangable factor that confuses me. What I mean is if you are interchanging cartridges, how do you flush out the beer lines inside the unit between beers? I mean say one person wants a raspberry beer, and the pilsner. If the raspberry gets poured first and then you switch cartridges, wouldn't the guy drinking the pilsner get a shot of raspberry beer in the bottom of his glass before the pils starts flowing?

Looks like some social media mentions have REALLY pushed their kickstarter in full gear, the last 24-48 hours. Funky Buddha mentioned it on their FB page, which is where I saw it and backed it. This looks more and more like it is going to happen.

They are now saying the bags will cost $1/each, with volume discounts available.

sounds 5 times better than 5$ lol 300$ is a bit steep for an intro price for the unit.

    @SYNEKsystem
Im guessing the dispenser will be thermo electrically cooled rather than a compressor. Also it will be computer controlled and I have seen several wine fridges die. Will spare parts be available to fix any problem that my arise?

Apparently Funky Buddha is on board:
"More importantly, we have had hundreds of breweries reaching out about SYNEK and how they can help. Breweries like Funky Buddha in Florida that asked their customers directly to support us."

Got it in an email from them. Crazy they singled out that brewery considering it's so close to me, it's the only one they mentioned in my email.

Funky buddha's Facebook post about the SYNEK is what made me aware of it, and subsequently back it at the $299 level. The device will be great for trying breweries who aren't local, as well as home brewing. I do 2 gallons at a time, so these cartridges are perfect.

Here in Massachusetts, most interpretations of our growler laws seem to indicate that brewers can fill only their own, branded growlers. Allowing brewers to fill a generic "cartridge" seems unlikely here.

don't mind me while I hijack the thread for a moment, but MA beer drinkers need to do something about that growler law. is there any reason why it's still on the books?

anyway, I think if Synek becomes ubiquitous enough it seems like a no brainer, but how much are craft beer drinkers crying out for this to begin with? most people I know seem fine with drinking a growler the night they open it (split it with a buddy and it's two beers apiece) and plan accordingly.

i'm also curious to see how these might throw a wrench in the plans: http://growler-station.com/growler/craftap/

I'm starting to come around on this thing.... They seem to be getting a lot of brewery support. My biggest issue now is Funky only fills 1 32oz growler of special beer per person, they aren't going to be filling this 128oz pouch with Last Snow.
As a homebrewer I'm beginning to see the benefit of the size reduction vs a traditional kegging setup. If the pouches are only a buck a piece, well this is starting to look good.

Another question is what happens when you partially fill a pouch? If I brew up 5 gallons can I fill the third pouch with 1 gallon without repercussions?

And this may seem like an obvious answer but can you naturally carbonate in these? I'm trying to picture myself using it for homebrew here...I fill up 3 pouches, 1 half full. One goes in the system to force carb with co2, the other just wait in the fridge in the meantime? They would probably be fine, I've had bottles that didn't carbonate before and it just tasted like flat beer so...

But what if I find I like natural carbonation better for some reason? I'd assume I can just throw sugar in the pouches...idk...I have zero experience with CO2 and beer.

The only answers I've seen concerning home brew and carbonating is this:

"If done correctly and under the right conditions, yes. You can absolutely prime, but we don't recommend force-carbonating. The gas involved with the dispenser, as Brian alludes to, is for regulation and displacement while dispensing"

Well now I'm confused because the kickstarter says this:

Weird...I wonder if that should be asked again on the comments section for backers.

They don't mention in the kickstarter question if they use the synek system to force carbonate, only that the pouches can withstand it.

What kills it for me is the idea of storing my beer in plastic. Plastic just leeches everywhere.

Not a concern according to the information.

I'm somewhat interested, but considering MN's growler laws (which recently improved) are still pretty poor. I suspect this is a no go for me.
