Read about it in the latest BA mag, but that's all I know. https://www.beeradvocate.com/mag/14555/small-but-mighty-the-synek-growler-adapter/ Anyone try this? If so, results? I'm not at all interested in buying the big Synek device, but this inexpensive offering caught my eye: extending the life of a regular growler fill sounds super appealing, if this is legit. For instance, we're heading next weekend for a first-ever trip to Hill Farmstead, where IPAs are only on tap. My wife and I just don't drink fast enough to drive away with too much in growlers, so the growler adapter seems intriguing as a way to make buying a bit more be less wasteful. If it works, that is--and I know reviews on the larger Synek system have been quite mixed.
I have an adaptor on order, I'll report back once it arrives and I try it out. Hopefully it will mean I'll get more use out of my synek system
I personally would love to find a way to make my growlers last longer! I usually get 2-3 growlers at a time (different brews from different breweries) and find some going flat more often than i'd like to admit. One huge drawback to this system I see is that so many breweries will only fill growlers purchased at their brewery, some say it is a state law but at the same time 2 breweries in the same county have no problem doing it (in fact they say "we will fill a gas can if you want us to". LOL) Bottom line is that I will probably have to start drinking more, having more parties or what I usually do...... emergency poker game at my house! cheers!
Maybe I'm off but I'm thinking this adapter thingy is to be used in conjunction with the $400 metal contraption.
You're clearly right, though TBH, I only figured it out just after posting, when I looked at the device again. And that lessens the appeal massively. (Wouldn't a $30 solution be awesome? Oh well.). But I'm still interested in reports on how it works. Apart from expense and technical hassles, the other obstacle with the main Synek that I'd read about was the lack of breweries willing to work with the system. But if you could fill a regular growler acceptable to any brewer, yet greatly prolong the life of the beer, that would be pretty great. If it works smoothly. So, if anyone has reports . . .
I'm in VA - and basically sold my Synek on Craigslist because I couldn't get any of my local breweries to deal with their bag/fill kit. I saw a cool product at GABF called Growler Chill - looks like it is coming out in January and for me, it has more of the features of what I'm looking for. It holds both 64s and 32s, keeps the growlers fresh for 3 weeks and doesn't require any special filling device.
Thanks. Hadn't heard of it. Looked it up: Looks really interesting, though price and various technical details are unclear from the promo material. Would be really interested to read comments from users after it comes out in January.
I've seen the Growler Chill stuff on Facebook recently and I signed up for their preorder invitation list. In the comments I saw them post a price range of $350-380 which seems reasonable for all that it does. It seems pretty interesting especially since it holds 3 growlers. I like the look of it too.
at the show they told me "mid to high $300's". It purges the oxygen from the growler before you insert it in the device, then uses a CO2 tank to maintain.
I've used the Synek since May now and I have my local breweries filling the bags. I actually took synek parts and fitted it to the door of my beer fridge. I love it!
