Hey BAs! I'll be visiting Syracuse for a couple weeks in July (13th - 24th, specifically). I know a couple good spots to hit up locally from my trip last year, but if anyone has any recommendations, or wants to meet up for a pint, hit me up! -Rog
@bentonquest Genesee Grande, right off of the SU campus. @butters_mcgee very cool and useful link; thanks!
You'll wanna check out J Ryan's and Blue Tusk, they're both less than a mile or two from there. I much prefer J Ryan's; the prices are more reasonable, the selection is stellar and the atmosphere is noticeably less "stuffier" than at the Tusk. That being said, the Tusk has an outstanding tap list that rivals that of any of the best beer bars in the Northeast, just make sure to bring your spendin' money when you go! As for good bottle shops there are many but you would need a car to get to them. -Party Source -Brilbecks -Real food co-op -Stafford Ave Store -Galeville Byrne Dairy -D&L Truck Stop (Auburn)
at the mall there is a place called World of Beer. I've never been, just heard about it in another thread here. http://worldofbeer.com/locations/syracuse If you like Zydeco, bluegrass, rock, funk, reggae, world, cajun, banjo/fiddle type music, you could always blow off whatever it is that's bringing you to Syracuse and go to the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival, July 17-20. You can bring in as much canned beer as you'd like. http://www.grassrootsfest.org/festival/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.display&page_id=27 I've heard that Funk n' Waffles is worth checking out, and looks to be pretty close to where you're staying. I've been to Alto Cinco (Mexican restaurant) and have enjoyed what I've had there. http://altocinco.net/ there was a thread here about a week ago that was removed, but a new craft bottle shop is opening in Auburn called the Thirsty Pug.
@Adirondack47 I hit up J Ryan's a bunch of times last year. The tap list was awesome, the food was fine, and the prices were good. I never tried the Blue Tusk just because of the prices (and only being in town for two weeks). I'll be sure to try it this time. I'll definitely check out some bottle shops; last time, I didn't really know where to go (except Wegman's). @butters_mcgee Great links; thanks! I'll definitely swing over to the world of beer. I have a feeling that, like last time, I'm going to be bringing home a trunk full of beer.
Are you the dude @utopiajane told me is coming up this way? The wife an I are going to try to make it down to her house as she invited us, depends on a sitter. If not we should grab some suds in cuse.
@BadJustin Yep yep! I'll be in Ithaca on the 12th. I might be able to swing a weekday visit down there while I'm in Syracuse; I won't have any after-working-hours commitments, but it will be about an hour drive each way. Hope to see you there!
Sounds good man. I live about 30-35 mins outside of cuse so even if we can't make it Ithaca and you want to grab a beer somewhere, let me know. There's a nice brewery and taproom my way that uses all locally sourced ingredients and is certainly worth stopping by. Owners are cool with popping bottles too, of which I have some decent one's I have been waiting to open, for no particular reason lol.
Funk 'n Waffles is good. No beer, though. Just coffee and food. Beer Belly Deli is good, too. Small beer list, but the selection has been good when I've been and the food is good. It's on the other side of the theater down from Alto Cinco. I work next door to Clark's. The construction has seriously ramped up the last few weeks, but it's hard to tell looking in the windows how much longer it's going to be. World of Beer is fine for what it is, a chain pub.
I finally found this thread! yes my house is open to all BA's who want to meet and greet Rog! Just message me if you want to meet up =)
