Anyone else try this yet? Middle Ages has always been a local brewery for me but no matter how hard I tried to like them, I just couldn't get into them. I saw they had a new DIPA called Late Knight at Clark's Ale House so I gave it a shot and was floored. This is a great beer...big grapefruit and hops up front and finishes smooth. I'm really pumped to have a great local DIPA. It looks like it's only available on tap for now.

Same experience here. Had it on tap at the brewery, took growler home and anxious to get back for another. Hope they keep this up! Curious to know if they used Ringwood in that. I couldn't pick it up though.

I spoke with the brewer, and Marc said that they did use the house ringwood yeast. It's really a great beer, but will probably not get bottled.

It is a great beer and would be highLY sought after just about anywhere.

Syracuse needs this beer canned...I think it would be highly sought after. Sorry to say but no one is going out of their way for impaled ale or wailing wench

If they packaged this beer, I would not be surprised if it outsold the rest of their portfolio combined

No way. I say this simply because they have a crap beer called Syracuse Pale Ale, that by law in Syracuse, has to be on tap at every bar/restaurant in Onondaga County.

Disclaimer: yes im being sarcastic. But it is on tap everywhere simply because it says "syracuse" in the name.

Ha, you make a good point. I could confidently say off premises wise, the late knight would smoke all of their sales. I think the Syracuse pale ale is my least favorite offering from them.

    I concur @msigona85 .

I've lived here for my entire adult life, and can say with confidence that there's been nothing worthwhile coming out of Middle Ages in about 15 years. Frankly, they're irrelevant in todays rapidly evolving craft beer market and everybody here knows it. They've been brewing beer in this town long before craft was cool and most of the people that I know (myself included) want them to give us a glimmer of hope that they get it; Hopefully this offering is an acknowledgement that they got it.

I had the opportunity to have the Late Knight at the NYS brewers Association dinner a few weeks ago and it absolutely floored me. Its an extreme departure from anything they've put out before and I'm confident that when (not if) they get this out to market in a 4 pack can or bottle format it will be a game changer for them. The guys working their table said that it is headed that way and I hope that they do because its really good.

I'm headed to Syracuse next week for Christmas. I'm definitely interested in trying this. Does anyone know how much a growler of this costs?

I can't say I agree completely with everyone's thoughts about other Middle Ages beers, but the Syracuse Pale Ale and ImPAled are underwhelming at best. I really enjoyed their Dragontooth Stout (is that the right name?). The Double Wit I had there a couple years ago was really good, too.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what other breweries are in Syracuse now, besides Empire and Middle Ages?

There is a very small nano-brewery called Eastwood brewing co (formerly Double Barrel). Local guy who makes quite a few tasty brews (which I definitely prefer to Middle Ages). Other then that you probably have to venture out to Utica (Saranac), Cortland or Ithaca. Depending on what direction you come in from you might be able to hit one of those places up on your way.

Have the beers improved here? I ask because I have been twice, once the first week of opening and then about eight months later. Some of the beers had nice flavors but the carbonation on most of them was off (read: flat or near flat). The people running it were really nice and I am rooting for them but it was hard to justify going back.
