T.V. Ordering

    I used to go to a bar and order by just saying "a beer" as did all the other beer drinkers did there. They only had one beer, Michelob on tap.

    I doubt "beer" is used to avoid legal concerns, although I bet programs get permission before performing any unsolicited product placement. More likely, generic terms are used to avoid free advertising.

    As an aside, how many average consumers/TV viewers do you think know Stone, Terrapin, Rogue, etc. are real brands? Probably not enough to matter.

    While I could've sworn this is a regurgitated thread and disliked it because of that at first, this has quickly become one of the most entertaining and informative threads I've seen in a while. 'Lotta likes here

    I've long heard that in parts of PA, going into a bar and asking for "a lager" will get you a Yuengling.

    Heh. When I first noticed Heisler on TV (I can't remember which show or film), I came on this site to check it out. Sounded credible enough to me!

    I've walked into the bar countless times and simply said, "I'll have a lager." So maybe I never really noticed that it seems odd.
