As I am getting ready for some tailgating action for tomorrow, I got to wonder what folks go-to beers are for tailgating. I was sitting at the store a couple times today and just couldn't make up my mind - that was partly due to the fact that some of the ones I would typically choose just weren't striking a chord with me today. So, what local beers do you like to take?

Pipeworks Lil' Citra and Revolution Fist City are a couple I usually go for in the situation of looking for easy-drinking and lower alcohol levels.

Lower alcohol levels??? Why? Are you taking orphans to the game?

I go for the higher abvs. I want to get myself all riled up for a big game. I also don't want to spend half the game taking a leak.

Are you going to State's game at Notre Dame?

if you're keeping it under 6% I'd add some Daisy Cutter & Lizard King to the mix. And BTW Fist City is a great call, an under rated flavorful easy drinker IMO

I generally go with a combination of old favorites and fridge clean out. I feel weird trying new stuff at a tailgate, especially since I go through more beer.

After I've had a few of your usual local pale ales (3 Floyds, Pipeworks, Half Acre, Revolution), I switch to older stuff, remainders from packs I didn't like as much, or stuff people left in the cooler from the previous week (if I get desperate, I'm the only beer nerd).

Later in the year I'll mix in a few stouts. There's usually at least one game where I grab some Octoberfests/Marzens too.

Bell's Octoberfest, and I think it is fairly low ABV

If I'm drinking for 3+ hours and want to coherently watch a game, beers that are high ABV's spell trouble! I'm more about just getting a solid buzz...I'm generally riled up enough as it is for the games. My next tailgate will be the MSU vs. BYU game with kids (not orphans, though), so I'll need to keep a straight head on for that one, but still enjoy myself.

I did go to South Bend for the MSU game (and victory). I ended up taking a few of the Fist City cans I had in my fridge, then picked up some Two Hearted from a Michigan City Meijer with an awful craft selection.

I crushed a few locals light by shorts watching football this weekend. It's shockingly a decent tailgating beer. Also beard of zeus!

I have a weird tradition of only drinking Wisconsin beer during Packer and Badger tailgates/games/events etc... So I recently enjoyed some New Glarus moon man (I understand WI only) Central Waters Brewhouse Coffee Stout for breakfast, also will be going to a tailgate in a few weeks and will bring WI Octoberfest usually right around 5%-5.5%. What about Founders All day IPA? or TG Psuedo Sue?

I think those two are both solid options, but aren't you breaking your WI beer tradition by going with either of those? I'd love to drink some PseudoSue as my tailgate beer if I could easily access it. All Day IPA is OK - I'm not the biggest fan of it, but it's alright.

The All Day IPA and PseudoSue were suggestions for you. Sue is available like crazy in WI. I see you are a Sparty fan, I am hoping for a good game Sat

Haha...didn't get that you were suggesting them to me. All Day was actually the other option for me besides Two Hearted at the limited Meijer selection, but I went Two Hearted instead.

As for this week, I am bummed they made it an 11 CT/Noon ET kickoff, as I'll be driving back to southwest MI for a kids birthday party. Hopefully I can sneak away to watch some of it.

I'm in the all day ipa boat, I'd like a sessionable beer to get me through the day. Last time we did a stout bottle share and I pretty much was blacked out by end of game. Not doing that again.
