This. If one's primary purpose is just to 'drink", just buy some cheap vodka and some cranberry juice. I don't see the point of not drinking a nice beverage, just to purposely drink a worse version of the same thing. If you want a break from beer, make it a clean break, and drink something else.

I didn't like beer until I was about 28. AAL's tasted like crap to me so I chose other "herbal" diversions.

So there's no going "back" for me, as I was never there in the first place.

I drink all beer, never turned my back on cheaper options they all have a time and place.

It is hard to knock a $15 case of 30 cans(which can be enjoyable as you mentioned) when you are around people who spend that on a single bottle or a 4 pack.

ones man swill is another mans chill. A lot of the stuff 'folks' consider good is probably closer to swill then this stuff.

While I may occasionally like a Miller High Life in a long neck I am pretty much a convert and lover of the variety and flavor differences of many "craft" beers.

We only get one spin on this mud ball----why be limited????

One of the things I've enjoyed about exploring European imports is it has taught me that good beer doesn't have to be expensive. Not that every import is great by any means, but I have found some that are comparable in price to American AALs, but IMO are still nice beverages that I don't feel as if I am compromising on taste.

I'll occasionally grab some PBR, Guinness, Coors Banquet or Blue Moon just to mix it up a little bit. Alternatively, I also lean on the cheaper (in price, not in quality IMHO) side of "craft" in the form of Otra Vez, Torpedo, Arrogant Bastard, Wussy, SNPA, Hop Stoopid etc. I love this whole good beer thing we have now, but sometimes the more expensive options wears on the wallet just a little. I'm not complaining so don't take it that way... I simply "adapt" from time to time, that's all. By all means, keep the good stuff coming!

Take a break from craft? Sure. Lately I have been drinking a fair amount of Lagunitas, despite their new ownership situation. Haven't had any Goose Island lately, but I would consider it.

Or did you mean macro AAL'S?

Then no. I might have one once in awhile, for social reasons or to give some that I have not tried a chance. But not as a regular thing. Drink what you like, but as for me, if I want something cheap and light, seltzer will do, or cold water.

Not everyone shares this viewpoint. I've spent thousands of dollars on fine craft beers in the previous 6 years, and you know what? I still like the taste of certain adjunct lagers. And also, not everyone can just drink vodka or other hard liquor mixed with whatever and get the same buzz or feeling. I hate hard liquor and it makes me feel like shit. To each his own. I'm so tired of the One Mindset idea on this site. For the 50th time, who gives a shit what someone else drinks?

All the people that say I would rather drink water or nothing than macro swill make my laugh. Good for you.

While I got this as a left over from a party it sure the hell tastes better than water!

Did you not have fun in high school or college? Do high school kids now drink stone IPA?

Too bad...you're missing out on some very good brews. "Craft" is a marketing term, and nothing more than that. There are some very good to excellent bigger brewery products out there these days (some of which demonstrate far more real craft in the making than many small brewer products).

I like beer. I've tasted water. I'll take any beer over any water.

Then the folks in Iceland have just the beer for you. (if there's any left.)

(I think this other beer is gone by now:

But then someone may be collaring a few, so trading might be an option or home brewing with a few locally sourced ingredients to substitute for those with a Colorado source.)

Usually have some sort of Yuengling on hand pretty much all the time. I did grab a case of Blue Moon Table Pils for $14.99 up the street the other week....then grabbed a twelve pack of cans for $6.75. Guy told me their supplier is sitting heavy on it.

I did not drink in high school, no. In college I did not drink much beer, drank more spirits and wine. In both I often has fun which dI'd not involve alcohol.

There are of course high school kids today who do not drink.

Kinda feel a bit sorry for people who can't enjoy a simple cold Budweiser on a hot day and enjoy it. It's more than nostalgia light harmless lagers are for the most part just crisp, easily drinkable and just uncomplicated. There's times I want more, sometimes not. I just laugh a bit at some of AAL hate, it doesn't have cooties, and you can still maintain your status in the craft world, none will think less of you.

And, some of us hate the taste of those crap beers. Since the OP started a thread asking if we take breaks from CRAFT, obviously he cares. I give zero shits if anyone wants to drink a crappy product, go right ahead, but this reverse snobbery against those of us who actually do not like those brews suck even worse than the perceived snobbery you accuse us of. Enjoy your Old Milwaukee.

I really wish I could mix in a 30 pack of AAL now and again since I am, shall we say, somewhat thrifty. But I unfortunately just don't really enjoy them (and this dates back to High School when I choked down plenty of them nonetheless). The first couple sips are nice enough but the moment they drop a degree in temperature they tend to lose me. If I had to choose, I think I like Miller High Life the best of the bunch, but that might mostly due to the cool bottle

The one exception is that I'll often order a PBR or a Narraganset at concerts because the not-so-great taste is actually a feature - they fulfill my need to have something in my hand while keeping me from drinking too much too fast.

Cost does still factor into my beer buying though. I buy a lot of Sierra Nevada (and a few local options - Wachusett, Ipswich, Jack's Abby) 12 packs to mix in with the $15 four packs and $12 six packs that are all too easy to find here in Boston.
