Oh please. There are many better places in Orange County to have a beer ... hell, even ghetto Anaheim has better spots if you want something close to Disney.

yeah, there really is. I mean, Noble is closer and they have food trucks that, while expensive, oddly come out cheaper in the long run than going to Hollingshead.

Best bang for your alcoholic buck though, is going to Trader Sam's at Downtown Disney and throwing all caution to the wind. Though this isn't Tiki Advocate, so I suppose it isn't a common interest here.

I'm starting to think that Gordon Ramsay should start a spinoff called Tap Nightmares.....

It's the hours that really keep me away now that I don't live 5 minutes away. Didn't go there for food too often and I'm not drinking during the day unless I'm at the beach.

This. My drinking hours and their business hours rarely overlap. I'd probably roll over there for a Saturday afternoon beer occasionally, but we all know how that goes.

That's not being a cheapass, that's keeping yourself from being a victim. I went to a local spot and got a 10oz pour of Bear Republic Apex and it was $10 when I got the bill...I always ask now. Oh, and fuck that guy for that response, I was just saying the other day that I need to get over there...I'll never patronize that place now.

That guy... The last time we patronized that place, this kid goes to hand me back my credit card, drops it on the counter, and says "oops" while staring me in the eye with a shit eating grin on his face. Terrible.

It's a shame too, because we live right up the street. Plenty of other places in OC that get our $$$ 3 or 4 times per week, every week. Their loss. :grinning:

We haven't been there in a couple years. Do they still keep cases of RR IPAs on the floor sitting at room temp?

I love when the Owners child gets handed a business and they have the my shit don't stink attitude. I've befriended some humble kids with parents worth anything from a few million to 50 million plus, they were the ones that were taught well by their parents about respect for others and morality. Seems like the owner of HH is in for a rude awakening.

This whole thread surprises the crap out of me. I've only been to Hollingshead's a few times, but I grew up with the kid, live down the street from the family, and go to church with all of them. Never anything but nice.

One time I was there, after I finished a Pliny and asked for a stout, HH short stack grabbed my used Pliny glass and filled it right up with the stout. Pretty sure that should have been the nail in coffin.

I think everyone is in agreement that everyone working at HH is nice except Kenny. He just comes off really abrasive and dismissive if you're not a regular. I just choose not to go there primarily because of their prices. Kenny is not my issue, as I have no problem with him.

I will say the girls working there, not sure who's who, have always been super sweet. But I've brought in friends of mine before and their grandson rubbed them the wrong way.

I haven't been in there since 2010, but I always had positive experiences there. Service could be slow, but they were always friendly to me. They seem like good people. Plus, I had my first Younger there in '08. I still recommend Hollingshead to people when they are traveling to SoCal.

The good:They consistently have a nice selection of taps. Sandwiches are good.
The bad: Draft prices are steep. Bottleshop prices are always higher than average. Sandwiches are way to expensive. Bartender's attitude. Hours.

I've never had a bad experience there, only been a few times though. My friend from SD lasted about 10 min before getting into it with the bartender. I have heard very few good things about the place other than the tap selection. I do recommend it to people if they are looking for a good selection and do not have a lot of time.

I personally love the place ... Still go every Friday afternoon with my coworkers. We have never had a problem with the service, and everyone has always been super nice to us. Sandwiches are great, and the tap selection is always great. It is a bit more expensive than some of the other bars around work, but getting a 7 dollar mug of Fresh Squeezed is better than get a pint of beer at the bar around the corner from my work thats been sitting there for six months.

Also, the mentality of it that everyone is speaking about, wasnt it the exact same mentality at Stuffed Sandwich, that everyone on here praises? The hours are the same, they closed more days than HH, prices were the same. I dont know, just seems like a double standard ...

HollingsHead is alright. Prices are a bit higher than other places. But they have most anything. Or can get it. Haven't been by in over 3 years. Use to stop by for pliny bottles all the time. Was unlimited at the beginning. But then it went from unlimited to 6 bottles. Not sure what it is now. I remember asking the son once (6 years ago) about getting a keg of pliny for take home and he said sure I can get it for you. Price was around 350-400 bones. I never got it. Didn't have a kegerator then. Overpriced. But decent place.

Yeah, i have never had a problem there either and up until recently they were one of the only places that would have a sour keg on.

I went to their PtY release in 2013 and while paying for bottled beers I struck a conversation with an older gentleman behind the counter. We were talking about Kern River stuff, and I thought he was super cool. Did he pass away recently?

I'm not positive when it was exactly, but I'd say it happened in the last year or two.
