So I'm headed to LA next Tuesday and I saw the list of breweries, but I'll have a car, so I was wondering if there was anything perhaps not in LA, but close by that's worth visiting. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I'd also like to know what the best bottle shop to go to in LA is, any help is appreciated, thanks very much!
Which list do you mean - the one in the BA beer guide? You may find a few places of note in Orange County, so look at that guide too.
The South Bay (El Segundo,MAnhattan Bch, Hermosa Bch & Redondo Bch) has a vibriant beer sceene going. These are all very close to LAX. Check the BA list for pubs this area and get money for taxi fares! http://www.smogcitybrewing.com/about.html and Strand Brewing also in Torrance are pretty enjoyable. Can't claim it to be the best, but this the link to a really good bottle shop in Redondo Bch. http://www.selectbeerstore.com/ If you get to Redondo, make time for a stop in at Naja's on the R.B. Pier. It is a classic brew pub with great grub. Try the combo plate. Swing thru Hermosa Bch and you will get good food, good beer and lots of eye candy. Enjoy SoCal!
Hmmmm..... so far this year, the question has been answered a few times. Maybe someone should write up a guide. Someone with time. And experience... http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/coming-to-la-on-business-lax.87063/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/yet-another-thread-asking-about-la-beer-info.78861/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/la-beer-guidance.78317/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/traveling-to-los-angeles.75316/ http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/places-to-hit-in-and-around-los-angeles.70493/
oh by the way, i'm going to be in LA like around October.. do you have any suggestion of where I should go get a good beer?
Golden Road, Angel City, LA Brewing Co, Barney's ******y, Surly Goat, any Total Wine in SoCal is awesome. BevMo as well.
October? Hmmmm..... all the normal shops and bars are closed in October, so I'm not sure what to recommend.
I always recommend a stop in Pasadena if you like walkable areas with a great beer selection. Within about a 10 minute walk you have all of the following: Lucky Baldwins Pub Slaters 50/50 100 taps, usually with an amazing selection. Great food. Stone Tap Room Haven Gastro Pub - Good beer list King's Row - Good Beer List Congregation Ale House - Great food and beer selection - shitty website. There is also an Arclight theater for sobering up and tons of other great places I have not listed.
As mentioned, Torrance has a blossoming craft beer scene: Smog City, Strand, Monkish and (coming soon) Phantom Carriage. Beachwood BBQ and Brewing isn't too far of a drive from Torrance, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo. Congregation Ale House is next door to Beachwood.
Beachwood Brewing in Long Beach is my favorite beer spot in LA County but it is a huge county, even further afield from downtown LA is Ladyface in Agoura Hills.
Yeah, pretty amazing mix of great house beers in many styles, great guest taps, great food, and fair prices. Wish they were closer to me.
I wish I would have taken a pic last last week. In addition to their amazing IPA/DIPA line up the guest taps were crazy, Pliny,Noble Ale Works Nobility,Enjoy By, to name just a few. Cheers......
