Same thing with Sam Adams. Too mainstream for the hip people. I love Goose Island, and I love Goose IPA.

There is some great Beer coming out of Fulton and Wood. I wouldn't pay 9-10 bucks a 6 pack for their brewed out of Chicago stuff but when its on sale for 12 bucks a 12 pack its a step up from Miller Lite.

Personally I think the whole AB buy out was a good thing and don't get the whole "sell out" aspect that seems to be attached to the Beer Industry. If a software developer sells his company to Apple he's a genius, is a beer that much different? In the end it's a product. While the Bourbon County Line isn't as good as it once was, It's more widely available even with the craft beer boom, so I feel that's an except-able price to pay.

I can't blame Goose Island for "selling out". If someone offered me a huge pile of money for what I've built, it's hard to say no.

I avoid Goose Island, especially at bars, because AB has sold Goose Island kegs at a loss to crowd out local breweries and gain market share. This hurts both small breweries and craft beer consumers as it ultimately limits choice. Craft beer fans are doing themselves no favors by supporting this practice.

You like what you like. I myself think Goose is mediocre at best(Sam Adams,Harpoon here in MA).I'll try them for sampling. I would not however purchase any of the mainstream beer they put out.

I'd like to bust 'em too for the trucker hat selfie. But as far as liking the beer, who cares what anyone else thinks?

OP, I find it hard to believe any of these 'beer geek friends' neither purchased nor consumed any Bourbon County the last few years. If they have, call these hypocrites out. If they haven't, call these liars out.

I can get the idea that they sold out if they aligned themselves with the macrobrewers are bad businesses that need to be fought ideology. It's like having a business that presents itself as vegan for moral reasons selling themselves to Hormel. However, if they didn't make that ideology part of their business or personal identity then the accusation doesn't really make sense.

I recall an old joke about a hiker who wore a trucker's hat. Can't tell it here. But what the naysayers did to you was nowhere near as bad as what the trucker did to that hiker. :grimacing:

What did we learn today, kids? Trucker hat selfies can be as divisive as macro beer buyouts.

I associate "shade" as something good....like sitting in the shade, enjoying a Ten Hills IPA. So ya, I'm against shade being a bad thing as well...

I would be willing to bet that the majority of folks wearing Bud Light trucker hats would look askance at somebody wearing a highfalutin Goose Island hat.:astonished:

    Cheers!

If any of my friends posted a selfie, the amount of shit rained down upon them by all friends would be unbearable. And 100% deservedly so.

Goose Island is a fine enough brewery..
