I am finally heading out to Pacific City for the first time ever. Anything else I should be on the watch for?

Was in Pacific City this past weekend (camping in the rain a few miles north at Cape Lookout, actually). My friend and I drove right past Pelican so we could get beer at Twist Wine Co. Whenever you can get Pliny the Elder pints for $5 (bottles to go for $6) as well as pours of Blind Pig & Damnation you do it. It's a weird little place, but it's worth a visit.

Sorry, that didn't help with Pelican...

There is a small winery named Twist Wine. I would recommend stopping in there

In Cannon Beach, there is a brewery not listed on BA called Billy's. Great beer there, especially their Blackberry Ale.

Edit: While at the Pelican brewery, I highly recommend the Mussels and Clams in the Kiwanda Cream butter sauce. That meal was one of the best

Thanks everyone! Twist sounds like THE place. :grinning: I like wine too so that's no problem.

Are you talking about Bill's Tavern? It's been in the database for years. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5078
Pretty cool little place, touristy in the summer but what isn't in CB?

    djbreezy:
Speaking of Cannon Beach, go visit the bakery my friends run near the Tolovana exit: Waves of Grain. Excellent breads, sweets and the best biscuits I've ever eaten, loaded with black pepper, green onions and Tillamook cheddar. No beer - but they are right across the street (almost) from the Warren House Pub, which is a sister pub of Bill's Tavern.

That is def the place, thanks for the help as I can now tick them  Sometimes I hate the narrow search, that's probably why I didn't find it in the first place.
Went to a great restaraunt called Sweet Basil in CB. They have a great wine bar and some decent bottled beer, but what amazing food.

I was a bit disappointed with Pelican. I visited in April from Seattle (drove down). On our way there, we visited HotD and Cascade, which were awesome, and then Pelican... seemed more of a tourist-sy place with terrible food and service. Beers and location were good (they're situated right on a the beach).

Service has been up and down the times I've visited... ditto with the food. Avoid the calamari (hugely over priced and not very good). Prices are high at Pelican across the board, especially in comparison to what one typically encounters throughout Oregon.

It's lucky for them that the location is so gorgeous and the beer is quite good.

for what it's worth, I took my first trip to Pelican on Tuesday and the service was good, even though there were a ton of people, and the food seemed fine (I liked the blackened chicken sandwich). Really tho, you go to Pelican for the setting and the good beer, not the food.

Their beers are good but yeah their food is very so so and overpriced.

All the comments about the food, hence my Sporty's recommendation.

I'm going for a bachelor party so either way I'll have fun. I'm just excited to get to try the Pelican beers straight from the source. I could care less about the food but I do hope the service is at least reasonable. No one likes bad service.

If you can, try to sit at the bar. I've always had pretty good service when sitting there... it's only when I was sitting at a table that I've ever encountered any problems with the service.
