Have heard the story before, but this is the part that always strikes me. It's pretty similar to my own experiences. It seems like every time I point out something like this to a retailer or beer rep, that's the reaction I get. They act like I'm the bad guy for happening to notice the beer was out of code, and then having the temerity to point it out to them. There's never any sense of responsibility, never any sense of embarrassment or apology.

All the more reason why I seldom ever say anything when I see old beer on the shelf. I always figure, what's the point? These people clearly don't care and are not going to be the least bit receptive to my "news."

The rep doesn't sound too thoughtful. But she probably wasn't too well paid, and had little power to improve the distribution and retailing. If she strong-armed the retailer to pull the stuff, she might have offended him. PA law may prohibit most returns to the distributor (it does so for wine and spirits) for credit. She wasn't an employee of either the distributor or retailer, so the only legal way for her to remove the merchandise would have likely been to buy it. That might even be considered as an illegal inducement by the authorities. In NY, we also have legacy beer stores (not too different from PA), and most (at least near me) have not adjusted well to the new marketplace.

And it may not. She didn't inform me either way on this topic.

What she did accomplish was pissing off a customer.

    Cheers!

They were probably fine. I heard a store manager say recently that SoS is still the highest selling product in his enitre store. It's rare to see it more than a month old around here

Kudos to @Victory_Sabre1973 for purging beer and refusing stale beer deliveries.

Would say these larger craft and AAL breweries have cut sales staff over the years that should be monitoring product in the field. Less sales result in pulling the sales staff, results in bad experiences and ultimately a downward spiral which leads to brewery retrenching as we have seen so many times the past several years.

I try to only buy refrigerated at this stage (Thank you Beer Temple), and singles I know were delivered within a week or two for the closer store that does not refrigerate most beers (limited refrigeration). They have a weekly email listing all the beers received that week (Beer on the Wall).
