A friend and I are wanting to get together next month. Omaha is close to half way for each of us. Looking for some recommendations on places worth going to and maybe some places to avoid. Thanks.
Kros Strain, Casual Pint, Beercade and Krug Park are good places to go, Juke Ale works is a must....if they are open by then. Must avoid places, Pint 9, even through it's directly next doors to Kros Strain. For decent places, you could check out Zipline, Vis Major or Nebraska Brewing. Cunninghams has great bar food and usually decent taps. But again, I'd avoid Pint 9, theres nothing worth drinking there!
Best places with food and beer are Cunningham's noted above as well as Crescent Moon. There's pockets of areas in town that are best for beer. Benson is where Krug Park and Beercade are, as well as some lackluster breweries in Infusion and Benson, but Benson Brewery does have good food. Kind of more the hipster area of town, with a few nice concert venues around as well. There's also downtown area. Zipline has a taproom down there as well as the Brickway Brewery. Thunderhead just opened a taproom down there which I have heard good things about. The best place for food in the city is downtown at Block 16, not much for beer but amazing food. Downtown also has Wilson and Washburn, Blatt Beer and Table, and Omaha Tap House for some decent food and beer selections. Some cool cocktail bars as well. There's there's Midtown/Blackstone area, where Crescent Moon is. The Moon has a German themed Huber Haus in the basement. Farnam House Brewing is close by and they do decent Belgian style and sours, with good food as well. Blackstone is a cool area for hanging out, but the beer selection isn't great anywhere besides Crescent Moon. Cool bars and food though. Then there's the SW/LaVista area for beer. Kros Strain is the best hoppy brewer in town, while Pint Nine is next door. I wouldn't be so harsh, but they're nothing amazing. Nebraska Brewing is right up the street, and they always have a good wide selection of stuff on tap, nothing that'll knock your socks off but usually nothing undrinkable. There's also a few random favorites all around town. Casual Pint in Countryside Village may have the best on-premise drinking selection in the city with 30 taps and a cooler of singles. Growler USA if your in NW Omaha has 100 taps, but also a kind of stale environment, but good food. Library Pub is in a random spot, but have a unique 48 tap selection with more whiskey than anywhere else. Beer overall in Omaha is an alright scene, but nothing really amazing. Brewers here can definitely step their game up, but the much-anticipated Jukes Ale Works is supposed to have some good stuff, but who knows when they'll open up. Beer bars are my best bet for finding the best stuff around on tap, and usually my favorite places to hang out.
@HuskerBall Thank you for all that great information. Not sure where we are staying yet so this helps a lot. Much appreciated.
I get to Omaha for work about every 8 weeks. I enjoy it and think its underrated as a beer town. I stay downtown as my customers are there so I never even bother to rent a car as I can walk everywhere. I think Husker and Chitown hit most of the hotspots. You can quickly search my beerfly reviews for my opinions on some of the spots. Have a great trip!
