Looking for some local wisdom from the Tampa BA's. I will be in Tampa for work on August 14 and 15. Could extend it and stay Friday, leaving later saturday if beneficial. Over the last few years Cigar City has become my favorite brewery, so I definitely want to visit Cigar City's taproom, maybe take a tour. Can I accomplish this Thursday after work or should I give myself the extra day? Is my timing lucky enough to score something interesting (limited) or at least some Zhukov? Of course I'll be open to in-person trades, too. Cheers
When is Zhukov available, i see the website says August? We will be in Tampa until the July 24th and didn't know if i could score some? Not to thread jack but is there any other recommendations for beers in Tampa?
I highly recommend anyone coming to Tampa to check out Rapp and Cycle as well as Cigar City. Rapp is in Seminole, about a 15 minute drive across the Howard Frankland bridge from Cigar City, theyre in an industrial complex and have a smallish tasting room but have 20 great beers on tap at all times (all beers available in 32oz growlers), they have great prices and flights of 4, 6, and 9 beers, and I cant recommend them enough. Just a fantastic nanobrewery (try the Gose, Berliner Weiss, Choc Peanut Butter Stout, and Maple Wheat Bock). Cycle has Peg's Cantina & Brewpub in Gulfport (South St Pete) as well as a brewery/tasting room in downtown St Pete. The brewery/tasting room is a very small, hole in the wall place that offers a limited selection of beers (and a few available in growlers/crowlers), but they only accept cash (no credit/debit cards), so the brewpub might be your better bet. Doug Dozark, Cycle's head brewer, worked at Cigar City for years before starting Cycle. Rapp: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28018/ Pegs: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22147/ Cycle in downtown St Pete: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35412/ These 2 breweries are definitely worth checking out while youre here if you can make time, you wont be disappointed. Also, 7venth Sun in Dunedin (just north of Clearwater) is worth checking out, but 4 breweries might be too many to visit depending on how much time you have. If I had to pick just one other besides Cigar City to visit, Id go Rapp first, then Pegs/Cycle, then 7Venth Sun. Rapp is having an Imperial Stout bottle release in August, 7venth sun always has a limited release in bottles, and Cycle is planning on a special bottle release soon...other than that, none of those 3 bottle anything, so growlers are your only sure fire way to take anything home with you. Cheers! 7venth Sun: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/27724/
I'll be there that same weekend (Aug 15). Do you guys think there will still be MZ at the brewery available (over a week after release)? Or just local bottle shops?
Anyone coming to Tampa should definitely check out CC... but if you want some off the beaten path kind of places, there are some really cool little tap rooms around town. Copperhead Brewing is just about to open its doors in Ybor City (section of Tampa), and is getting great reviews from festivals. If you have a car, drive out to East Tampa and check out ESB brewing company. They do not bottle, but have a few really cool beers in an industrial setting. If you go to St. Petersburg, I agree with the post above for Cycle Brewery, but also check out Green Bench and Three Daughters.
If anyone goes to ESB, it is worth going a few blocks away to Three Palms also. The do growler fills and have cans of a good ipa in the small taproom.
Will the shops even have Zhukov left? From the thread on its release it appears like it will be sold out throughout the area.
