I've been going to TAPs for the last 6 years...

As the NYS brewing scene changes, so does this festival. The first few years it was a cozy amount of breweries and you could hit all of them within a session and some a second time. Now there are a ton of breweries, which is great, but it takes a little more planning and decision making in terms of what beers you want to try. You'll have some really popular NY breweries attending (Barrier, Rushing Duck, Finback), some you've never heard of or are new, and then a lot of completely forgettable ones. Most of the breweries bring their standard line up which is a little disappointing but you'll find a couple that will bring some worthwhile tasty beers. Theres free food throughout the festival, it's easy to spot since there will be lines by all of it. All in all its enjoyable. I recommend taking the bus up there and back so you don't have to drive, unless you wanna make a weekend trip out of it, which I have done in the past but that can get pricey. My experiences over the years have generally been positive and has slightly waned over time. By no means a bad experience, but I've been to better events.

Please note this is a broad and vast generalization of my own experiences. I'm sure many attendees have never waited on line for food and loved every beer more then the next with nothing bad to say about any of them, and thats awesome. Unfortunately I have not had that type of experience.

I had reservations about going but my girlfriend has a house at Hunter so we're gonna make a weekend of it. Kinda needed a weekend away and this happened to work out perfectly.

I'll probably skip most of the breweries I attend regularly here on the island unless I hear they have some one-offs/new brews. Plan on hitting many of the upstate breweries that I've had limited or no experience with.

I will be there both days. 4th time attending out of 5 years (missed last year). Best bigger fest in nys imo. Always exciting to try many of the new breweries and some brats! Always some nice surprises. Rented a house this year. Will be bringing some nice beers if anyone is interested in meeting for a small bottle share

"Discovering" new breweries is always a highlight of these festivals. With so many new breweries popping up in this state, you would probably be hard pressed to just visit all the new ones at TAP. If I may give you a starting point for 'upstate' breweries to check out, I would suggest: The Brewery at Bacchus (New Paltz), Prison City (Auburn), and The North (Endicott).

For anyone looking to make a weekend of it, I would highly suggest The Roxbury Motel. It is about a half hour away from Hunter, but it is the single coolest hotel you will ever stay at in your life.

I'm interested to see what beers are in the "VIP" package, that general admission doesn't have access to.

Any good food or drink spots to hit in hunter now? We are going sat and sun and it looks like our old standbys numero uno pizza and cosmic Charlie's are now closed. Either way can't wait

Looking for the same. Staying in Tannersville at my gfs ski house but she hasn't been there in awhile. Looking for somewhere with good beer and a tv to watch the Islanders game tonight.

Hey guys list out some smaller local breweries/beers from local breweries that are attending that we might not know about and should check out. Here are mine from western/central ny:
-big ditch brewing: hay burner, deep cut
    -community beer works
    -good nature: brown ale, Annie
    -hop shire farms: zingA beer
-nedloh sonetimes has some unique beers (chocolate gose)
--prison city!!! (Won a few Gabf medals this year and amazing sours)
    -roc brewing: whopass, mocha porter
-stone yard!!! A must do, making some of the best beers in the country IMO
