Ive heard that bigger beers like quads/RIS etc taste better from the bigger bottles, however sometimes I can't handle a big bottle or want to mix it up a little. I didn't know if there was anything out there to substantiate this ?

My only thought is that if this is the case, it may be related to bottle conditioning. Especially smaller-scale production beers, or ones that are hand-bottled, might show a difference in mouthfeel and appearance in particular. Just a hunch, but I feel the bigger bottles would be easier to hit a certain degree of consistency, just because the relative degree of variation (y'know, measured by volume) could be lower if done correctly.

But yeah, beers that really depend on bottle-conditioning like a lot of Belgian-style beers, I imagine, might taste different from larger as opposed to smaller bottles (also cap vs. C&C, related to the same above-mentioned reasons). But again—just a hunch.

Also a lot of it could just be perception. Big bottles and C&C = fancy-pants liquid.

I think the only concern should be the ratio of headspace to beer. 12 oz bottles have almost as much headspace as a 22 oz bottle, so in theory, the 12 oz bottle could experience a higher level of oxidation or experience the same level of oxidation but more quickly. Honestly though, I think it's mostly a non-issue when comparing sizes. Just buy what you want to drink.

Who have you heard this from? Did they actually conduct a blind tasting to see if people could spot the difference between the same beer poured from different size bottles? Until someone can show you the data doubt what you've heard.
