My first ever order shipped last week and is supposed to be here between yesterday and tomorrow. It's been stuck at "Awaiting confirmation scan" in New Jersey since Monday. Do they ususally get delivered when estimated or is this normal?
It seems pretty typical for them to lose a day, gain a day, have a random delay here and there. Their delivery services aren't the well oiled machines that are our typical carriers often are. Speaking of, I had a box delivered right on time the other week. I was in front of my house loadingwome things in my car to go do something. This dumpy van pulls up and blocks my driveway - not a panel van but like an old Econoline family van. Lady is on her phone having a personal call, finishing a smoke, has an older kid in the car with her. I'm wondering what this is all about. Maybe their car broke down or something, am I going to have to ask them to please move, etc. Eventually she gets out with my Tavour box. One of the more interesting delivery people I've had grace my doorstep for sure. On the beer front. Drank Furthermore from Anchorage last night. That's a pretty great beer DB coconut Stout right there.
Much like @flat_lander my local / last mile delivery service is pretty erratic. I've had a box arrive as much as 4-5 days after the estimate & the communication once is hits that last mile service is generally terrible. And I've had some interesting folks too. Had a really heavy box (all bombers back in the day) & picked it up off the dolly the delivery guy wheeled up to the door. I said something like "Damn, that's heavy" & he called me a ***** & walked away. Good times!
I had one sit in that death spiral for weeks. I also had one show up early with that same notice. I've nabbed the beer I signed up for, and haven't opened a crate in several months, the poor customer service just did them in for me. Half time bev has been awesome, and they don't tell me what I can and can't buy. That's some pinko shit.
Admittedly, the box I ordered was sort of a mistake. I didn't read how the whole process worked and before I knew it, I had a box full of beer that I unknowingly already paid for in my crate. So I just figured 'whatever' and wanted to see how the experience goes. I like the whales that show up, but not the lottery style drops. I might stick to the online stores that I've used in the past
Have you ever used the Uhaul tool online to book a reservation (trailer, truck, etc.)? Well, if not, towards the end of the process they ask if you need help. They offer a list of freelancers (some of which are true, full on companies, but often even if it is “Jons Moving”, it’s literally just Jon and his son, Jon Jr.). There’s nothing inherently wrong with using these people. I have (ok, they stole from me, and I hope they choke on glass and die). My point, though, is that they aren’t exactly The Intercontinental Hotel. They are more like…That motel down the street run by the nice Indian family, who keeps everything very clean, but if you’ve ever been there you say, “Yea, the door doesn’t close all the way. There’s an empty liquor bottle under my mattress. The TV is bolted down. I’m not staying here more than 1 night.” TL; dr: Freelance shipping is kind of bogus, and it’s unconscionable to me that Tavour is as big as they are and uses this type of crap. I suspect they use it because they can get around paying alcohol handling fees that I bet UPS and FedEx would charge.
This is an upside to being in state; my boxes always close on a Wednesday and get delivered to me that Friday by my local UPS guy, haven't had any issues yet.
So the status of my box still hasn’t changed since last Monday. At what point should i contact support?
I think I've typically waited around 4-5 business days from receipt at the local carrier with no status updates before reaching out. The few times that I have reached out to the local carrier here, I was happy that I did since it seemed to help push things along.
And sorry for the double-post -- it's too late now to edit, but did anyone else manage to snag a 2022 Fundamental Observation? Seemed to (unsurprisingly) sell out very quickly and was limit 2. I had been passing on the majority of Bottle Logic's offerings as of late (mostly stouts with lengthy lists of adjuncts), but FO forced my hand since I hadn't seen it on the app before. I'm hoping it lives up to its reputation as the short adjunct list of just vanilla and bourbon barrels makes it seem fairly promising. I enjoyed Darkstar November, so fingers crossed.
I passed, hoping I might get lucky and see some local distro. Number Crunch popped soon after. I'm holding out strong though. In one week I got a trade box, a Tavour box, and picked up the start of my season ticket at Rev. And Thundertaker saw distro by me that same week. Reality came crashing down around my house of cards that I'm going to try to burn stuff down...
I'm quite jealous -- if I saw Rev distribution locally I'm pretty sure that would cut my Tavour consumption in half.
I only buy stouts and barleywines during the warm months for these reasons. Come winter I might try shipping some IPAs. So far the experience has been not great. It hasn’t even checked into the local carrier. It’s at “awaiting scan at local carrier”.
Happy to report the box arrived today and was on my front steps with no signature needed. The beers are a little warm but as I said before, they’re all stouts and barleywines so it should be ok
I'm in the same boat...not Tavour, but I've had a box on fed ex trucks and warehouse's for 14 days now...Fed Ex customer support is the worst I've ever dealt with. Like you they're all stouts so we'll see... i just want them in my belly
Lost Coordinates (Fundamental Observation aged in casks on vanilla bean) from Bottle Logic dropped today at $30 limit 3. It sold out pretty quickly, though.
