Good news in the article at the National Post. http://life.nationalpost.com/2012/1...fforts/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter I do though have to wonder why the BEER STORE is donating money to BC Libs? Aren't they an Ontario entity that likely lobbies to save their own turf?
Good news indeed. This is the kind of thing that the Alberta government and Alberta brewers need to be looking to as we go into our own mark-up review, instead of lobbying to hike taxes on out-of-province craft beer and complaining about how unfair it all is.
Doesn't the BC liquor board consider all non BC produced beer the same, as in at the maximum excise tier, regardless of brewery (in relation to production size)? Also, Alberta brewers want the lower volume brackets to have their taxes lowered. Edit: I just reread the article and can't believe I missed the volumes in question. 160000 hL is a lot. There will be very few breweries in BC that will actually see this change. Considering most microbreweries are producing 5000-20000 hL (breweries such as Driftwood, Central City, Phillips, etc.). Even Central City's new plant will only be 100 000 hL at maximum capacity. Such a token change to benefit breweries who are already financially stable.
